Haha! The same happened to me a long time ago.. being skeptical, just trying, and losing weight. Congratulations :)
That's what happened to me! Last friday I ate 2100 calories and yesterday the scale showed a smaller number than I could've dreamed of! Congrats to you and me! Did you exercise, by the way? How long did this 12 lbs loss take?
Yes! I started at 1200 cals per day; plateaued for weeks; bumpped up to 1400-1500 cals per day and - whoosh! - the LBS keep steadily dropping...
It's awesome.
it's wierd, i know. BUT IT WORKS!!
Last year before my first hospitalization, I never really ate anything, just very small meals throughout the day. During my stay in the hospital, I was eating 3 big meals plus snacks in between, and I managed to lose 10 pounds!!!
Keep up the weight loss!! 12 pounds is an awesome number!!
sweet.. i started at 1355 cals.. and moved up to 1500... havent seen results yet though...

This gives me hope! I just learned I was not eating enough (thought I was consuming more calories than I actually was). I just started increasing my caloric intake. Did you do it gradually or just increased all at once? Congrats!!!
Hallelujah, they have seen the light!! I'm sure you all have found this out by now, but severe or sometimes even moderate caloric restriction will put your body into fasting mode, which actually SLOWS weight loss. The body thinks it needs to conserve as much as possible because it's being starved and your weight loss... sloowwws.... to..... a....... complete............ stop.
It's true, the only way to lose weight is to take in less than you burn, but it can't be TOO much less. For anyone wondering, the magic number is somewhere between 10-13 calories per pound of body weight. It's also good to vary your calorie intake each day to keep your body guessing -- that keeps your metabolism up. I've been taking in 1800-2000 (I started out at 185lbs), and have lost about 20lbs over several months.
Keep it up!!
Wow- are you guys serious???
I'm 5'7", 15 y/o, 179.5 lbs and take in about 1300 cals. But as I read here I must be taking more. So, I used CC+'s tools and got this:
You should consume about 1500 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 60 kgs.
This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 0.5 kgs per week, which should be reached by August 19, 2009.
AND,
You burn 2000 calories during a typical day. Remember that this estimate is based on your body weight, height, age, gender, and your average level of activity.
So, how many calories am I supposed to eat? I strength train AND cardio train 3 times a week and walk around my school during breaks :D.
