Why does draught beer have DOUBLE the calories of stout?

Quote  |  Reply
This might be the wrong place to post but I LOVE my Guinness draught (on tap, not from one of those high tech cans) and I'm shocked to discover that draught Guinness has double the calories of regular guinness stout!!! Why? I thought all the difference was "just" more nitro gas?

But I'm not sure about the double calories, realbeer.com puts Guinness as follows:

Guinness Draught 4.0 Alcohol % 125 Calories 10 Carbs (12 oz)
Guinness Foreign Extra Stout 7.5 Alcohol % 176 Calories 14 Carbs (12 oz)

Our calorie count has Guinness, Stout at 170 (16 oz) and Guinness, Draught at 210 (16 oz)

This site is not always up-to-date on calorie contents. Guinness draught IS Guinness stout, so I'm not sure why there are two entries for it. Guinness stout is available as draught (tap/keg), can, and bottle.

I'd say check the labels on the bottles and cans and such, and get an idea how consistent those are. They should be about the same, if you make sure that the serving sizes are the same. The labels are likely to be the most accurate and up-to-date, even compared to the manufacturers website.

BTW, the Guinness website says that the draught is 196 calories per pint (16 oz)....that works out to 147 calories in 12 oz, or 123 for 10 oz. They also say that this stout is somewhat lower in calories than many other things (like milk, and other comparable beers).

My understanding is that the can, bottle, and keg are identical in contents.....the only difference is the delivery system.
Thanks guys. Btw, any of you celebrated St Patty's Day on Sat? I spent three hours in the gym before the hearty Irish stew and pint(s)!
I pass a ginormous billboard every day on my way home from work with a picture of a giant pint and a caption that say "Guiness is only 125 calories.  Not on purpose."

Hahaha.
higher alcohol content the higher the calories.   1gram alcohol = 7.5 calories.

to put that in perspective:
1g protein =4calories
1g carbohydrate = 4calories
1g fat = 9 calories

I had to make my own entries for Guinness and tag them cuz I kept getting confused by the entries on the data base.   And yes 1 bottle of Guinness is 125 calories!   So a pint (16oz) is about 160 calories.  Guinness really is a 'light' beer!
