Do I get the dress? Bored and want your opinion!

Quote  |  Reply
Okay so here's the deal:

I went to New York & Co. last night (my favorite store) because I had "City Cash" to redeem. For every $30 I spent I got $15 off.

I tried on this dress and it was *gorgeous* - fit perfectly!!!! actually looked flattering too... all except for my upper body (arms and 'underarm fat'). I have 2 City Cash left to spend that I saved, which means I can get the dress for $30 instead of $60. Here's my dilemma:

Do I get the dress in the size 12 I tried on and just say screw the flabby arms?

Do I get the dress in a size 10 so that when I tone up more and drop another dress size I really feel confident in it?

Or do I not get the dress at all and buy a thing or two that look good on me overall?

I'm terribly bored at work today so I thought I'd ask your opinion :) Stupid post I know!!

show me the link to the dress...
hah.. sounds like me yesterday.. i found a great pair of pants.. very very flattering and fit me great.. size 20 (down from 24+).. did i get them?  nope.. couldn't see paying $35 for a pair of pants i probably would only get to wear a few times.. and now i'm kicking myself.. because they looked great on me..

i'd like to see the dress too.. :)  let us know what you decide.. (i'd say go get it.. hehe)
Well....how fast are you losing the weight?  Do you think a 12 would be too big in no time at all?

I'd say if you like the dress now, buy the dress now, wear the dress now.

Can you, or someone you know take it in when it gets too big?
Here's what my husband would say if I asked him those questions?

1. How often are you going to be able to wear this dress?

2. How do you feel when you have the dress on?

He is constantly asking me these 2 questions when I ask him about getting clothing. Of course now after 15 years when I am by myself trying on clothes I ask myself these questions out loud. It really helps with my decisions. (But sometimes if I REALLY like something and I am going to wear it only once or twice a year - I still buy it!! I deserve it!!!!!) This may not help but......
here is my .02 - if you love the dress - and you're going to wear it and enjoy it - then I say BUY IT!  Chances are - the only person that even notices your arms is you (we are our own worse critic:) Get it and have fun!
Does the 10 fit you now, but tightly?

If so, you are so close, buy it in a 10 as a reward.  You're doing so good, the 12 will be too baggy in no time.  And then you'll be sad you won't be able to wear your new dress anymore!

I wanna see it, too!
Ooooh, my favorite store too!!!

Do let us see and .... what Secret Squirrel said!
NY&Co. Doesn't have it on their website :( but here's the closest I can find to it:

Polka Dot Dress

The dress I tried on was longer - knee length - and didn't have that ruffle at the bottom/layer of fabric underneath - whatever that is!

I didn't try the 10 on, but I doubt it fits yet.

Ob- I know how you feel! I can't see spending money on new clothes every time I lose a size :(

I suppose it can always be taken in, but I don't have *too* many events to wear it to as of now. That's why I'd rather get the 10 - I have a feeling I'll be a 10 for a while for some reason.
I know teh one you mean, i was at NY&Co Monday.  GET IT! Does it make you feel beautiful? Slender? gorgeous? How many times have we talked about non-food rewards? Go for it!  MAKE an event, have some people over for a cocktail party (even if you're normally informal, do it all chichi for fun)!
It's totally adorable! I'd go for the 10 but that's me... and honestly, I'd only buy it if I knew I could wear it a half dozen times or so!

But I say, if you aren't worried about money, go for it! If you're watching what you spend, wait a bit, there may be something even better next time you look!

PS... I hate my arms, hint: go tanning! Camoflage!! (how do you spell that anyway?)
I saw it and wanted it!!!!!  Get it! it will look hot on you!  did you try on a 10?  How much would you need to lose for the 10 to fit?
The dress *does* make me feel good, except for those darn arms!! I know they're flabby!

I do go tanning Flgirl but it doesn't camouflage that much!! (you missed the U ;) )

SLAPPY - YOU should get that dress! It would look totally hotter on you! I didn't try on the 10, but the 12 did zip quite easily... maybe I'm not as far away as I think I am. I tried on a 10 pair of pants and they buttoned no problem, just major muffintop!! lol
Are your arms flabby by your standards only or would everyone think that too?  I mean, we are all extra critical of ourselves - if it was someone else in sleeveless with the same arms would you notice the flab?

I think I would get it the perfect fit now.  I guess that's not so optimistic - when are your occasions that you need the dress for?  Will any of them come & go before you fit into the 10 nicely?  Won't you feel fabulous in the 12 for now?  And... if it's so discounted... would it be so bad if you have to take it in... and then wait to do that till you reach closer to your goal?

(So many quesions... I'm good at dilemas - creating them, at least.  :D )
It's so cute and I love a knee-length skirt!

But I can't believe you didn't even try on the 10!

*wags finger at gemini in disapproval*

Try it on - I bet you'll be surprised!  An A-line skirt like is usually very generous around the hips and tummy.

The only complication is the bust.  I don't know if you're "chesty" but it could be a little tight under the arms.

But here's the thing:  if it's a little tight under the arms, just buy a super cute shortie cardigan-thingie to wear over it.  It'll cover the arms you aren't comfortable with and hide any muffin-spillage over the top.  AND, between the cardigan-thingie and the full skirt, your waist will look super tiny and oh-so curvy!

Here's a cute shrug off Nordstrom's site as an idea. It's not perfect, but you get the idea...

Oh, I love the square neckline on this: http://a1216.g.akamai.net/f/1216/955/6h/image s2.nordstrom.com/images/store/product/medium/ 174559.jpg
That is an awesome idea, secret!  Get a shrug to coordinate with it - and then you can wear it even before your arms stop being "flabby"!!!!  And I love that particular shrug - never saw a dressy one like that.

(See above for a study on women and what makes us excited.  I think I need a life.  ;)  )
Awesome idea!

I know shame on me. I'm going tomorrow to try on the 10 :) We shall see! My chest is a 38C, and the 12 was still slightly roomie in the chest area. I hate muffintop-armpits though ugh!!!

I'll definitely stop somewhere and get a shrug or cardigan - great idea!

Oh and poohb- my arms are probably only too flabby for me, but like everyone says we're our own worst critic! And I can't wear things I feel flabby in :)
