What should I dress my Julia up for Halloween?
I don't want her to have a conventional costume; since she is; quite the individual. Nor, do I want her to wear something that will be embarassing to her when she's older. I don't have lots of $$ to spend on this; so something creative would be ideal. Any suggestions? I was thinking a mini-Miss America....but not sure I want to go down the Toddlers in Tiaras route. She will be in a stroller since she isn't quite walking yet.
I suck at Halloween suggestions however with that amazing head of hair she has mini-Miss America could be cute but you're right about how it could turn out.
What about a little ballerina? Pink onesie and a tutu? You could make the tutu yourself... tulle is pretty cheap. Regardless, she'll be adorable!
thats a great idea, but how do I make a tutu?
There are some crafting sites. I'd google it. I stumbled across one before and it looked really easy to do.
i threw a crochet needle across the room just becuase I couldn't tie a knot...

That's a video of how to make a no-sew tutu. HTH :)
Otherwise, like a witch or something would be pretty easy, just a black dress and cloak and you could probably find a cheap witches hat. Or a ghost, just cover her in a sheet! Not very original though
I made a tu-tu for my husband when he dressed as the tooth fairy. I just cut several layers of white and silver tulle pinned them, then ran a simple stitch around the top and used the thread to gather it at his waist. It was really simple.
How about Pebbles from The Flintstones? That would be super cute!
pebbles would be adorable.
with the dark hair, what about snow white?

This is the best instructions for how to make a tutu online( that I've ever seen.) It's just knotting/looping tulle on a ribbon or elastic waist band. This is super easy and the finish project is absolutely adorable. :) Best of Luck! I've passed this tutorial on to lots of other mommy.
I've never received so many compliment on something homemade. Even if it's not for a Halloween costume... I'd suggest you still make your daughter one. :)
A lot of people make Halloween tutu costumes. Bubbles bees, kittens-tigers,ladybugs, bunnies, fairies, princess, angels, ballerina, pumpkins, witches, devils, even pirate ones, etc. There are so many creative-girly ways to enhance your tutu. It's pretty easy/inexpensive to add a few accessories to tutu costumes. Still stumped for ideas? Use Google. :) Phrase it different ways: Halloween tutu costumes/Halloween tutus/Homemade tutu/ tutu custumes/ Etc.
Hm, if you don't have much money, but want to cool costume, Target has some really cute costumes for dogs that might be adaptable to a kid that's not walking yet. They're only $9.99 and come complete. Just a thought.
Eh, my girl's first Halloween (she was nearly 2) she was a ballerina. I put some sparkle trim on a pink onesie, and stitched up a little tutu. She loved it then and for years after. The kids even dressed the dog in it eventually.
I could see draping the stroller in brown fabric, buying a brown or red plain sweat set, and squiggling red t-shirt paint on it to make a hot dog. Maybe some green felt squares to make relish.
Or you could put cardboard on the sides, paint wheels and a seat, then dress her up in western gear as the stage driver.
The good thing about halloween is that it isn't about perfection, it is about impressions. So, if you just make something look similar, it is good enough.
Oooh oooh. What Puh8suwrux said! That's cute!
That gave me an idea. You could use that fake cobweb stuff around the stroller, etc. She could be a spider riding along in her web. Totally easy/cheap to create the web look around your stroller. Easy clean up! The itsy bitsy spider would be cute as a button. ;)
I like the flower costumes - basically you make flower petals out of felt - you could pin them to the hood of a hoodie ... dress her up in green and voila you have a little flower!
oooh!! these are all good ideas!!!!!!!!!!

i'm petrified of spiders, however, that idea if fantastic. love it! if you wanted, you could always dress her in black, and sew 8 little "legs" on the back of her outfit. aww. or a red patch on her tummy, and she could be a black widow. :P
I'm leaning towards the Pebbles look (since that's what everyone calls her when her hair is up) or a ladybug; since that's what I call her sometimes :) But I LOVE the spider too!

aww. Too cute.
btw: S'anku. I <3 it too.
A lady bug would be really easy. Get a black onesie or black zip up pajamas. Get some red felt and some black felt. Cut a big red circle. Cut black circles and use fabric glue or tacky glue and glue them on the red circle. Pin the red circle onto the front of the onesie with safety pins. Get a hair band and some pipe cleaners and make antennae for her head.
Here are some ladybug tutu examples via google images:
