I am currently around 11 and a half stone and that is pretty overweight at my height (5'3) however I fit easily into a size 14 and I can even get into size 12s and 10s sometimes ![]()
I suppose I was just wondering everyone else's dress sizes and how this relates to your feelings about your weight. I mean, size 12 isn't big at all and I have size 12 jeans but I am overweight. It's so weird!
I think it all comes down to body shape, and it depends on the dress for me. I got measured for a bridesmaid dress earlier this year (before I lost 10 lbs) and came out as a size 6, but I was 5'8 and 155 lbs. It's because all my weight is in my lower half, i've got hips and a booty, and some impressively large thighs, so the dress drifted away from that area.
In pants, I'm about a size 10-12 so it will fit my hips (but I have to wear belts because of my waist) and in shirts I'm usually a medium.
...shopping is hard, lol.
I agree with nomnom. For me it's the same dilemma. All my fat is located in my lower half, so for tops I fit into size 6 or 8 (depending on the cut) but my pants have never been smaller than size 8 and are usually size 10.
If only those damn hips would go away... ![]()
I wear a size 18 right now (although those are getting pretty big...may be moving back to a 16 soon!!!) and I weigh 237 pounds. I carry it pretty well, I don't look like I weigh that much when I see myself in the mirror. For tops, I usually wear an XL or a size 1 in plus size. I have lots of icky back fat, so tops are sometimes hard for me to buy.
Shopping is an absolute nightmare for me. Like previous posters, I carry most of my weight in my hips and thighs. I can easily fit into a medium shirt (as long as it's not tight fitting at the bottom where it goes over the hips) and anywhere from a 8-12 size in jeans depending on the cut and make. I weigh 151 at the moment. I'm basically a rectangle shape with no curves unless you see me from the side.
It completely depends on where you carry your weight. I'm bigger in the thighs and stomach, so my dress size is 1 or 2 sizes smaller than pants.
It does give me a nice ego boost to buy a much smaller size than normal though! :) It's completely psychological.
ladies, I don't trust the mirror or the scale. the scale reads 165lbs and I am 5'3". I can fit in a size 12 jeans in Gap. it is just a little tight.
Just wondering if I am 165 or heavier???can anyone help ? sorry this is not related to the original question.
There are variations in sizes between the many shops and fashion brands. You tend to find that the more expensive, aimed at middle aged ladies fashions tend to be a size bigger than they say. Whereas the expensive fashion brands like Jigsaw and Whistles aimed at younger women is always small and tends to start at silly sizes like size 4. I find New Look to be pretty accurate with it's sizes and also good value.
My weight is belly and hips mainly so I can usually fit into a smaller sized top than I would wear on my bottom half. I like things loose though, well until this belly has gone anyway :)

I have noticed the same thing for me. I'm 26, 166 lbs, 5'4" and wear an 11/12 pant size. I thought my scale was off for a while but I was the same weight when I went to the dr. I think it's just what everyone else has been saying, it depends on how you carry your weight. I usually get it in my thighs and butt, however lately it's been going to my tummy. Probably why the scales went up but the pants didn't!
I just bought my wedding dress so I know how odd dress sizes can be! When I was trying dresses on I could fit in sizes 8-16 depending on the brand! I seem to be an 8-10 on my upper body but a 14 on my lower, darn thighs!

Congratulations :))) This is great news... forget about the size. you are going to be a beautiful bride no matter what size you are.
I carry weight in my butt and thighs too so I guess I am 165 as the scale tells me :) which is not bad for now...
thanks for the reply.

Thanks. I am just hoping to find someone who is 5'3" and around 165 pounds so I can know if the scale is telling me the truth. It is a big problem that I don't see it in the mirror. Or I just have to wait till I wear a smaller size.
