Any other girls out there have minor anxiety attacks during homecoming/prom season when they buy a dress in advance and it fits like a glove?
I just bought my homecoming dress and it's gorgeous, but I am terrified that in a month it won't fit for some reason. I know I am being paranoid, but please tell me someone has felt this before.![]()
Hoohooooo yeah....I've been there before. I did something pretty gosh darned stupid too, if you don't mind sitting and reading what happened (Or not, glory of typed messages, eh?)
When I was getting a drress for prom, I found the one I liked and it fit SO well! Though, I figured in order to avoid the hassle of having to have a dress too tight on prom, I got the next size up, which was pretty darned big on me.
Well, when prom came rolling by, i had actually LOST weight, and the dress ended up fitting HORRIBLY on me. If I had gotten the dress that had fit me, it would have been a bit too big, so one can only imagine how a dress two-sizes too big for me would look like. My mom and sisters had tried pinning it up so that it wouldn't drop, and I ended up spending my prom too afraid to dance for fear of having a pin break or prick someone.
AAUGH. I know your pain. But if the dress fits you, don't do what I did. Just be sure to eat healthy and keep on doing what you're doing to avoid weight gain (Unless it's close to your TOM, then that's another story, i'm afraid)
If you're afraid of bloat before the big day, drink a lot of water with just a bit of lemon juice in it and warm them up, it'll keep you from holding water weight before the big day.
Good luck, Hope you have fun at your dances!! :) :) :)
omg I hear you! I HATE shopping for dresses, becuase they usually never carry x-smalls or 0's. I'm 5'5" and 100 lbs., so I'm petite, but all the dresses are made to fit georgous curvier girls that actually have boobs. Ugh, I look like a 10 year old playing dress-up when I go browsing for formals.
Somedays, I get lucky and come across my size (on rare occasions, I can fit a size 1 :)!), but the smaller sizes, at least from what I've noticed, are always the most expensive!
Granted, my body is a far cry from "sexy", but I just wish I could find a dress that didn't look like a little kid's first communion gown, a mature dress that actually fit :/
But everybody gets frustrated in one way or another, and it just makes FINALLY finding the right dress that much more rewarding :D
direwolf689, that's awful. I'm sorry, but thanks for the advice. I'm feeling a little more relaxed. I just had a minor spaz out.
I'm pretty self conscious about exposing my body. I mean, I love it (most days), but I just do not feel comfortable showing a ton of skin so that's why I lean toward floor length gowns, but you can't really wear those to my high school's homecoming. And I do not have boobs or a butt or ANY curves so I finally found the dress that makes me feel gorgeous.

I think it would be fun to see some other CCer's dresses, don't you think? =)
I have been out of high school for almost ten years, but I can still relate. I was in a wedding over the summer and had to buy a bridesmaid dress well in advance. I was totally stressing over it fitting me months down the road. I ended up having it let out a little so that I didn't have to worry about being uncomfortable all day. Although I didn't gain any weight, I was still happy that I could breathe in the dress after having it altered...it was even a little roomy :)!
Tip: Spanx can do wonders to give you a little extra room. Target makes an off brand called Assets (they look like biker shorts).
Have a great time, and I'm sure you will look beautiful in your new dress.
I just saw the link you posted to the photo of your dress...duh.
It's so pretty! Not a bad price either for all the detail! I bet you're excited to wear it. You have very good taste!
Beautiful dress! I'm 20 years out of HS, but the past two years, I've been invited to a Black Tie optional Christmas party - talk about stress! and with co-workers - similar to schoolmates, but in a barely more intimate venue - big house, lots of people.
Last year (after one experience under belt) I started looking for dresses in August. Since my husband's event was the night before, I had to come up with two dresses! Since I am short (5'2") and overweight (now down to 194 from 216 but up there for the event) I bought over the internet and found a local seamstress. I highly recommend you find a seanstress just in case you find you need to "tweak" the dress fit. Some alterations can be fairly cheap and quick (a week). And that is one lovely dress you found, so you may want it "just right"!
Have fun!
Yeah, that happened to me but I ended up just getting the dress taken in some. I loved the dress so it was a no-brainer =]
Why am I gaining weight after a gastric bypass?
After a gastric bypass, absorption becomes more efficient over time. And so, unless you have dumping syndrome, assume that absorption is not a problem... Read more
