Are Dried Apple Rings Fattening?

Quote  |  Reply

I've been addicted to them lately. While some may crave for chocolates when PMS-ing, I'm lucky to be craving for apple rings. But what's the verdict? Does it fall under high calorie snacks? I can't seem to find calorie/piece. I can eat 10 a day.

Dried apple rings are quite energy-dense.... all dried fruit is because the water has evaporated and you're left with quite a lot of sugar..  According to one entry on the CC database they're 120 cals per 40g or 81 cals per ounce.   Eat too much of anything and your body will store the spare energy as fat.... enjoy!

Dried are calorie dense.

Freeze dried are just the opposite.

Im a fan of Brothers brand freeze-dried apples, pears and banana/strawberry.  You can get them online but cheaper at Costco.  Snack size bags with about 50 calories and great when you want a 'crunch'.

Seneca brand apple chips sound freeze dried but are fried with 140 calories in 1 oz.  Sounds more like potato chips except.

Ooh I should try freeze dried apple! Sounds yummy.. I've gotten freeze dried pineapple before, they're so good! Kinda weird at first....

Exactly - I found them kind of weird at first too and then found I like them.  REALLY liked them, had to hunt them down at Costco and those individual serving bags are handy.  Am I getting paid for this?  It was such a treat to be able to crunch something that was seriously heatlhy (nothing but fruit) and not your carby or fried crunch calories either.

Funny thing I also learned - If I open a bag and get distracted, they will gradually absorb moisture from the air and the crunch lessens.

Sun,

Do you have a link or a picture of this product. I looked in Costco website but all i got was tonner for computer printers. I would love to add this to my snacks.

Thank you
