Dried fruit?

Quote  |  Reply
I love dried fruit! Yummy! I add it to waffles, oatmeal, and yogurt.

So my question is: is dried fruit good for you? or even okay? What's the difference between it and reg. fruit (besides water loss)? The ingredients are just the fruit (except for cranberries, which add sugar).

you can eat far less of it for the same nutrient value as fresh fruit. Its good for you, and dried Pinapple is esp good for you, as is dried apricots.

The only diffence is nutrient Value is concentrated in dried fruit - and so are the calories but you eat a smaller portion of dried so it dosn't matter realy :)
Dried pineapple exists?? I'm gonna have to find some!
Tescos do it! look in the wholefood section at any store :)
Dried fruit is great I think in moderation because the cals are higher.  Make sure that when you get the dried pineapple that you don't get the kind that is coated in sugar.  It tastes awesome but it definitely adds up the cals. :)
I borrowed my sisters food dehydrator one weekend and dried up some bananas, strawberries and tomatoes.  They all turned out really well.  I don't think I'll use it again though.  I think I'd rather eat one large banana than the same banana shriveled up into a few chips.  I know its the same thing, but I like quantity- it makes me feel fuller.
I just bought some dried papaya this weekend. It is horrible! I don't know what to do with it.  I didn't check the ingredients and it's loaded with extra sugar. Instead of chewy and soft, it's grainy.

I like buying dried fruit because it doesn't go bad. I usually have raisins, apricots and prunes around the house.  Also dried apples are the best. I try not to go overboard when I eat them.  Dried prunes and apricots really add up. If I didn't eat enough fruit for the day, it's easy grabbing a few dried pieces of fruit in the evening, expecially if I'm not very hungry.

No, no, no, no, no. Dried fruit = little sustenance, ton of calories. Get real fruit only; you'll get to eat way, way more of it.
