yeah haha I have been but when Im out and im drunk I like to have a
beer... it sucks cuz i know it makes you fat and I dont know if you
could even keep it off
well, you have so many calories a day to spend... overeat & gain weight...
so, if you want to spend some of our calories on libations~not a problem unless it hurts you some other way (like diabetics need to limit drinking or alcoholics need to not, or for religious or other personal reasons, eh?)
just realize that you are drinking the calories instead of eating other, perhaps more nutritious choices...
but, i make the same type of choice if i have a small rootbeer float or a couple servings of chips

I say drink beer, good beer that is. Make it part of your meal. I just exercise enough to where it will even out if I know I will be having some brews that day.
I dont understand... I burn around 500 on the tred a day + watever for
8 min abs... why would I want to eat what I just tried to burn?
hbingman, you bring up an interesting point. i don't know what you mean when you say "good beer", but i enjoy craft brews of a slightly heavier quality (in particular, pale ales). i can't find any reliable nutritional information for these beers (and i'm in canada, so aside from being more substantial, they're all 5% alcohol). i figure they have to be at least 150 cals, if not closer to 200. any thoughts?
I was talking with my brother about this yesterday. He drinks a LOT of beer. He said he probably drinks 3 cases a week. He eats GREAT, though. His food choices are awesome. He used to be skinny - until he started drinking. He has a huge stomach. If he'd just give up the beer and not make any other adjustments, his weight would FALL off.
yes, when I say "good beer" I also mean crafted brews, microbrews. there is a local brewery that I visit sometimes. i think calories vary in what kind of beer you're drinking. stouts can probably add up to maybe 200 calories a pint. but like i said, i make it part of my meal. beer can be filling. i know it's not the heathliest choice but my diet is pretty healthy and i'm a distance runner so i try to balance. i just enjoy quality beers. i'm a musician, so i play a lot of bars where in addition to my pay, i get free drinks from the bar. so i've learned what such good stuff is out there...but in moderation.
I think it is a matter of how your body reacts to the beer. I can't drink beer and loose weight. It is too carby for me. But I have very skinny friends who can drink all the beer they want and be fine. I think you can try it, track it, and see how your body reacts. If you can have a few beers and keep you weight loss going the way you want...GO FOR IT. If not, figure out what works for you. For me it is vodka sodas... low carbs. But all in all you have to figure out how to live your life the way you want, and if you enjoy beer....life is short...enjoy beer. :-)
ahhhhh i guess no beer then!
Drink Amstel Light, it's 95 calories. Just keep track of what you are drinking and don't drink like 10 bottles.
vindeg ~ what hbingman is saying is...
one way to be able to eat more a day is to exercise.
so make your choice & enjoy it ~ Guilt free! And then get back to your normal eating plan the next day :)

cals burned (from living and exercise) - minus cals eaten = equals deficit.it really doesn't matter what you spend your daily calories on. It's ok to have a treat or a drink... You will feel better if you make better more nutritious choices... but it is ok to indulge now and then.... just realize you could be eating better food choices instead...
so if you burn more calories, then you can eat more and still keep the same deficit/weight loss.

Calories in Beer
a 12 ounce, regular beer is 117 calories. If you can afford to spend that many on completely empty calories with no nutritional value, then work it into your daily total.

drinkin a beer to me now is like eating 5 big macs...
A glass of bear is actually more like a quarter bigmac lol... But burgers are the worst thing you could eat anyway ^^
And this...

It's not the carbs in beer that are the problem. It's the alcohol. Alcohol has 7 calories per gram. Carbs and Protein 4 calories, and fat 9 calories. Lower alcohol beers (not necessarily low carb beers) are less fattening than higher alcohol beers.
Your body processes alcohol first, before fat, protein, or carbs. Thus drinking slows down the burning of fat. This could account for the weight gain seen in some studies.
Hard liquor is distilled and thus contains no carbohydrates. The current ?Zero Carb? campaign for vodka and whiskey is baloney and may encourage mindless consumption. It?s like bragging that a candy bar is ?cholesterol-free.?
When grapes are made into wine, most of the fruit sugars (carbs) convert to alcohol, but a few carbs remain. A 5-ounce glass of wine typically contains 110 calories, 5 grams of carbohydrates, and about 13 grams of alcohol (which accounts for 91 of the calories). A 5-ounce glass of wine supplies roughly the same amount of alcohol and number of calories as a 12-ounce light beer or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof spirits.
Beer, too, contains carbohydrates. The new low-carb beers are not new at all, though this type of beer does indeed have fewer carbs. Low-carb beers are simply the old light beers with a new label and ad campaign. The old Miller Lite has 96 calories and 3.2 grams of carbs in 12 ounces. The ?low-carb? Michelob Ultra has 96 calories and 2.6 grams of carbs. Coors Lite has 102 calories and 5 grams of carbs. The differences are tiny?hardly worth mentioning. In contrast, a regular beer has 13 grams of carbs and 150 calories.

- Alcohol is not a carbohydrate.
mindless consumption of vodka and whiskey? sounds like the ad campaigns are working in my favor.
seriously though, drinking beer won't kill your diet in moderation.

Just be careful. The calories can add up quickly. I have a drink just about every evening. More than one and I might easily exceed my calories. (Sometimes I'm faced with the decision - ice cream or beer).
