do YOU drink any of your calories?

Quote  |  Reply

it's funny, ever since i started my weight loss journey, i cut out all beverages with calories in them; milk, juice, gatorade, etc. it worked; i lost over 50 pounds. obviously that wasn't my only cutback, i counted all my calories as well. But the other day, after my shift at work (starbucks), i decided to order an iced soy latte. it kept me full for hours! i don't know if it was the volume or the protein, but it was very satisfying.

so; do YOU drink your calories, or do you stick to water?

I make a killer 20 calorie latte and I usually have two each morning.  Other than that I mostly drink water with a diet mt dew here and there.  I can't help but think that drinking calories is a waste of calories (other than the latte of course!).

How do you get calcium, if you dont mind me asking. Its just milk can have so much. I guess  yogurt..
I have about 1 glass of miolk a day - i cut out soda and juice as they were practically empty calories, but I have milk (soy) and sometimes light cranberry juice as there is some cranberry. Oh and yeah, white hot chocolate at 60cal cos its stops me having real white choc.
same here. The only time I drink my cals is if it's a special kind of drink and I've made space for in my calorie count for the day. for example, a drink at Starbucks, a latte from Dunkin Donuts (I love the light vanilla ones), maybe an energy drink here or there (but those are only like 20 cals anyway), some chocolate milk made with almond breeze and sugar free syrup, hot chocolate, stuff like that. It's not very often though. I don't really ever just drink a soda or juice or even Gatorade. Even if I had the room in my calories for a can of soda, I still wouldn't do it.

and red_herring, personally for me, besides having other methods of calcium (cheese, pudding, yogurt, some other things), I take one of those Viactiv chewable milk chocolate calcium supplements from time to time. I used to drink milk alot when I was younger (usually having chocolate chip cookies dipped in it first!), but I still have it in my cereal. Though now I've switched over to Almond Breeze, which has calcium in it too.

I drink Slimfast when I'm rushed in the morning. They're very satisfying.

one stupid habit i have not been able to break yet is those monster brand coffee drinks.  200 cal's a pop except the light one, which is 100 cal's a pop.  but i can buy 4packs of the regular ones, which makes them 1/3 cheaper, and i havne't found 4packs of the light ones... so, yes, i have 400 to 600 calories a day of that, and occasionally a light beer or glass of wine, but the beer or wine is every 3 to 5 days, not every day like the stupid stupid coffee drinks.

I cut out soda. That was the only change I made and lost 26 pounds in about 3 months. I had quite a bad habit before.

Now I reserve drinks with calories for special occassions.

Can anyone say tequila? lol

stripedtiger, good for you!  i've heard even diet soda hinders weight loss.  i love me some diet pepsi! fountain soda preferred.  but i have had soda only once in the last month.  that was during the wendy's incident.... Embarassed

I have milk on cereal a couple times a week, but only half a cup because of the calories.  To get my calcium, I take a multi-vitamin that has lots of calcium, I eat cheese everyday and yogurt sometimes, but another great way to get your calcium is to eat Tums or Rolaids (or something similar).  It's great because they're packed with calcium AND soothe upset tummies!

I only drink plain old black coffee & tea, water or skimmed milk, the milk I drink is only 50cals for 150grams.  I count it all in my calories.  If I drink alcohol I count that aswell.

I still put milk in my coffee, 4 oz of orange juice most mornings, glass of red wine most evenings, now and then a beer (but then no wine of course).

The only cals I drink are skim milk in the morning...and coffee with a tsbp of half half for 20 cals.

Oh yeah, can't forget the vodka, and tequila, and rum, and....well you get the drift. At least I mix them with calorie free mixers!

I drink 2 or 3 coffees a day, but they are only about 40 calories a piece (half teaspoon sugar, bit of skim milk), and a glass of wine with supper.

Beer and occasional vodka or gin work their way in occasionally as well.

I have cut out juice for the most part, and milk I sometimes drink on whim, but usually stick to yogourt, cheese and vitamins for the calcium and vitamin D.

Apart from the cup of milk on my cereal every morning (which doesn't really count because I'm eating it!) it's water all the way... that way, when I DO decide to have a drink with calories in it (juice or vitamin water or peach iced tea) it's a special treat.

At weekend the majority of my calories come from drink - alcohol:-)

I generally go the zero-cal route (diet soda, black coffee and tea, generic crystal light which has zero cals instead of 5/8oz), unless it's a treat (Starbuck's skinny lattes are delish). I do have low sodium V8 as a snack now and then but I see that more as actual food rather than a beverage.

I drink water for most of the day but sometimes I might have 1/2 cup of juice (50 cals) or a tall half-sweet iced coffee (45 cals), tall unsweetened iced tea lemonade (~50 cals) or a tall soy latte (140 cals) from Starbucks. And the occassional glass of wine or beer.

I drink milk, kefir, tea, and 100% fresh-squeezed/natural juice. :) But then again, I don't really restrict my calories.

Just remember that even though the package says 0 cals, it can legally have in it anything less that 5. Not that is matters that much, but if you drink 10 per day, you might be consuming more cals than you think.

I cut out all alcohol during the week, so I only drink at weekends and even then it's usually only one evening per weekend (tho I may have a G&T - slimline of course) on Friday night then have wine with dinner on Saturday). I only drink water and black (well, green) tea during the day, though if I need a caffeine fix I'll have a diet coke. I get my calcium from milk on breakfast cereal, and occasional low-fat cream cheese in sandwiches.

Cutting out alcohol makes a huge difference for me, as I would otherwise have a third to half a bottle of wine per evening with dinner - a lot of empty calories!

Well I drink milk and water about 95% of the time. I almost never drink juice, I have had maybe 6 sodas in the past year (and this was with mixed drinks only). I gave up pop last summer and I haven't actually had a craving for any ever. I don't really care for it and now just one sip is all I need to remind that it's waaaaaaaaaaaaay too sweet for me. I gave up fruit juice last Christmas.

I do make protein smoothies each morning but they're not so much a drink as they are a meal. I mix lots of fruit with 1% milk, protein powder and some peanut butter or cottage cheese. Delish.

Outside of that though I do drink alcohol. It's not that frequent, maybe once every two weeks or so, sometimes in excess (like 8 - 10 beers/shots) and sometimes it's just two or three pints. Depends on the night (if it involves more than 3 drinks it tends to involve LOTS of dancing so it slightly balances).

Depending on the mood I'm in during the evening I may also enjoy a glass of wine with dinner or while playing guitar to a beautiful summer sunset (so nice to sit on a balcony, enjoy a cool summer breeze, sip on wine and play guitar - completely relaxing).
