What should I drink/eat after my circuit workout?

I've been doing a circuit workout for 55 min. (Biggest Loser Bootcamp). And today my muscles are just feeling achey and blah I was reading that you need protein shakes (or something like that) after you do weights to help your muscles recover and fro the actual workout to work properly? is this true? if I don't take things to help them am I going to get anywhere. Thanks.
Protein shakes are more convenient and get energy to your muscles faster, so they have a slight but measurable advantage over solid food.
But there's nothing special about the protein in the shakes, it's just easier to get a lot of it and some people don't feel like eating after a strenuous workout. You could have a couple glasses of milk and a few eggs or a chicken breast instead; but most gyms frown on people frying food on a camping stove in the shower :-P
+ lots of water.

HaHa Melkor! Your usually so serious here, so it's nice to see you have a sense of humor! I have been wondering the same thing, meagan, so I'm glad you asked. When I get home at 9:30 p.m. from my Club Box Circuit training class, the last thing I want to do is put food in my mouth (I'd much rather fall into bed-not even a shower!!!
). I have also wondered if I am being counter-productive by not eating. SO, I will make a better effort to at least get some milk into me before the big snooze.
In response to melkor I have also heard that adding 1 or 2 oreo cookies, or simply just some chocolate milk mix into a glass of milk or a smoothie with protein powder helps with muscle growth. I have heard it is basically because your muscle are depleted of glycogen after intense workout and it helps to restore some of it. I was wondering if this was true, and I am sure melkor could shed some light on it for me.
