YES. i did. it was delicious, it was pinot grigio, it was 1,000 calories! next thing i know, my inhibitions go down, and i'm munching on annie's cheddar bunny crackers till the cows come home. plus 400 cals!
this is not the first time i've done this. i don't think i have a problem with alcohol... do i?
i'm 192 lbs so i get tipsy, not drunk or wasted; i drank over a 2 hr period. (i'm also 30 yrs old, not 16)
does anyone else do this, or anything similar?

not last night, but i'm working on it right now!
me also definitely not 16.
i dunno, man. i had a really great dinner planned. i plugged it into the food log and ended up with a total of 800-something. and it came to me: ooh - i can have wine! so i did.
it's dry red, so according to the sources, i'm still only at 1420. you know what? it's not every day. we're adults. right?

funny, i had a really great dinner too - and i knew i had 400 cals to spare so i also had the same great idea - yay wine!
then the bottle was empty... :(
c'est la vie

pinot grigio...my favorite! I looove wine...My husband and I would have a bottle a night, but I have really been kinda turned off wine since I came to terms with how many extra calories a week I was drinking....I only have it on the weekends now and then no more than 2 glasses
It must've been the stage of the moon 'cause I hit a bottle of dry red wine last night too which led to some yummy garlic cheese. I only had 2 glasses (big ones though) and I limited my cheese intake to two thumb sizes but I'm sure it went straight to my thighs. :)
I don't think you should worry about drinking a bottle. IT happens, right? Just don't make a habit of it.
Cheers!

Yup. Only meant to have a glass or two...
i looked up calories in wine and it looks like it is generally about 500 calories per bottle. if thats any consolation.
I don't know what kind of bottle has only 500 calories... the wine I drink - usually a cab or a shiraz - have roughtly 200 calories per glass! So the 500 cals. per bottle thing? A beautiful dream.
I'm surprised by these calorie estimations. I don't think wine is really that high in calories.

seeing as a typical bottle has 25 ounces/around 6 4 ounce gasses, thats more like 600 cals a bottle. I guess it all depends on the size of the "glass"

Forget the calories. A bottle of wine in a night is still not good because the calories are all from alcohol (or sugar, if its a dessert wine / port). More than a glass a day is detrimental not because of the calories, but because they are calories that your body doesn't really need (unlike carbs, protein, fat)
Plus, if a bottle of wine doesn't get you more than just 'tipsy', this isn't something new for you. Just think twice.

Dry Red Wine is not that high in cals, 25 cals per ounce or so which is about 100 cals for the typical 4 ounce glass. A normal 750 ml bottle will be closer to 500 cals. The wine is not the problem, it is the cheese crackers that ruin your diet. You need to stop drinking before you lose your self-control.
thanks for the scolding, kunfushuss. we're all adults here.
well, i see kunfushuss' point. two glasses make me tipsy. a bottle would knock me out.
but you're right. we're adults here. so do whatever you want.

I rarely drink any more. Maybe once a month. I'm 5'4" and 217 lbs and a bottle of wine will only get me slightly more than tipsy. And yes when I do drink that once every month or two, it is a bottle of pinot noir (a good french one, might as well spend a little money on it if I'm only doing it once in awhile).
Don't feel bad, I drunk a 40 oz Coors light last night. I was not concerned too much at the timr about calories. I am just thankfull for no hangover.
40 ounces of beer? doesn't it get warm?
I say be careful. My wife and I went on vacation to her parent's house and we brought along a bad habit... We started to drink wine on weekends. Not just wine, but to have with toasted french bread slices and brie or gouda cheese... We also get some smoked salmon to go with it... Before you know it, the alcohol starts doing it's trick and we're eating everything like there is no tomorrow. It's like smoking... You can't stop and you crave for it on the weekend that you don't do it. I mark this event as the beginning of the downfall of our great weight losses and right now I'm struggling to get back to where I was before (8lbs away right now).
Yes, we're all adults (I'm 38), but I'm also not "smart" enough to stay away from stuff that is oh so good. If it's just the alchohol then I think you can live with it if done in moderation. But it's tough to do things in moderation when you're having fun with friends/family and there is other food around.

douglas, you just found my real weakness: cheese. if i have cheese in the house--esp brie--i'm in big trouble!
WOW!!! I am sooo glad I looked at this today... I went to a "home party" and wanted to be good. Next thing I knew, I was 2 glasses into a bottle, and you are all right~~~~~ I started eating! I do this whenever I have more than one glass of anything, and I hate it. I don't think I have a "problem", but it bothers me that I can be so good for so many days and then feel like I completely ruined any progress I made.
I need to get a little bit of the will power of douglansng and kjunfushuss..
Where are you all getting your calories regarding wine? I am taking them from this site, but I also saw similar amounts on another, so I thought this site was in the ballpark. I was estimating 100 calories a glass (about 4 oz) PLEASE tell me it's not that much more!!!

had a bit of a binge last night, alcohol doesnt make me eat though, but i realised this morning the fruit juice i was mixing with to try and pretend i was still being healthy was really juice DRINK. so im trying my hardest not to think about how many cals were in that!
ah well, student life...

i'm glad to see i'm not the only one who falls into this trap! i'm convinced the only way to avoid the pitfalls is to avoid the wine.
i think there are close to 1,000 cals in a bottle of wine (estimating - depends on what type of wine you're drinking). add to that the snacks (mmmmmm bread and cheese!) and you're on the way to ruining a week's efforts to eat well!
a bottle of wine has 4-5 glasses (typically). i never intend to drink more than one or two glasses... i think part of the problem is starting on an empty stomach, then you start to think "i should eat something." then you wash the food down with wine :)
