drinking more water

Quote  |  Reply

this week i started to seriously try and drink more water everyday.. even though i've always said i was going to before, i never really did. i guess you could say i was mildy dehydrated.. i only drank like 8 ounces a day, at most. pretty bad, i know. so now that i've upped my intake to 32-64 ounces a day my weight has slowly gone up like 4 lbs. i know it's the water, but will my body retain it because it wasn't getting enough before? or will it just go back to the weight i was before i started drinking more water? sorry if it sounds dumb, these past weeks have been all over the place, my weight has been all over the place and idk what's going on.

help? Smile

What's your sodium intake? If it's more than 2000mg, you're going to retain more water. But, I found through several links online that if you keep drinking water, you will retain less. It has something to do with dehydration overworking your kidneys.

A rule of thumb I once heard (but have struggled to meet each day) is that you should drink half your weight in water. So if you're 120 lbs, you should drink 60 oz. And here's a link that expains it a bit more: http://www.suite101.com/blog/oilsdragon/half_ your_weight_in_water

I try to tell myself that drinking more water will make my skin prettier and loosen up my tight muscles (which get dehydrated easily).

christine: thanks for your reply :) i'm always around 2000mg of sodium more or less.. but i'm now trying to stay at 1800mg or less, hopfully that'll help. i just think my body is still not sure if i'm gonna hydrate enough.. ugh idk?
