Why drinking water helps with weight loss

I thought I'd just show you guys this great article about drinking water and how beneficial it is. Here is the original link

Why Drinking Water Really is the Key to Weight Loss
Don't roll your eyes! The potion for losing that excess body fat is all around you. It covers two thirds of the planet. If you eat right and exercise at the intensity, frequency and duration proper for you, but still can't get rid of a little paunch here and there, you're probably just not drinking enough water.

This is soooo true and thank you for posting this information. Since I have started trying to lose weight this time around, I have increased my water consumption and I feel great.
I'm just joining this forum - and what an inspiration to read this! It's just the jump start I need! Thanks for posting!
I'm trying to drink 3 litres of water a day. eek!
great article. thanks for posting that. :)
I'm so bad with water...I've been logging it along with my food, and for 3 days I had only 1 glass per day.    I find it helpful to have a water bottle with measurements down the side so I can see exactly how much is going into me.   At work I set a goal of how much I'll drink for each break.
hurray for water!!!! nowadays, the only liquids i drink are skim milk and water. no more sodas or sugary juices and i feel greeeeaaaatttt!!!!!!
Great article.  I knew this information after asking for people's answer to "why is water good for dieting" a while back.  It's always great to read even more about the Why than to just think in your head "yeah, I need to drink more water".

Ever since drinking more water and excercising I've noticed that my skin is becoming clearer.  Yes, I still have an occasional pimple here or there, but it's nowhere near like before when I was eating poorly and not drinking enough water.

I'm a fan of water, but it bores me so I usually drop some crystal light into a .5L bottle of cold water at work.  Makes drinking my quota for the day really easy.
I'm trying to drink more water too, but like it says on the article - it does make you need the toilet a hell of a lot more which drives me crackers! Has anyone who has been drinking the recommended amount of water found that after awhile you do start to pee less?
Thanks for posting this! Great article! Don't forget herbal tea, guys!
skinnieminnie, I definitely think you start to pee LESS after a while - when you get more used to it. I also abide by the "once you pop, you can't stop" rule. Kind of like... when you are out on the town and you go to the bathroom you can't stop going after that! Hahaha, you have to hold it in as long as possible.

This lady I know has steadily been losing weight for the past year - 30 kgs (66 lbs) since January. Her dietician told her you need to drink 2 litres of water a day (the usual 8 classes) if you are at a normal weight. If you want to LOSE weight, you have to drink 3 litres (12 glasses) - and obviously more if you exercise. She drinks 3 litres a day, throughout the day. It's a lot! But I'm going to try stick to it for 2 weeks and see what happens. Will post my findings here.
dhm, I really liked the article you posted, very informative...I am NOT a water drinker, so Ive started buying crystal lite to flavor it and that has helped alot..My question is, such as in another post, when you "fall off the wagon" for a weekend, and eat stuff you had been avoiding, and drink beer, or whatever, and you gained a couple LBS, why is it known to be water weight? It is the assumption that if youre doing all the stuff youve been trying not to do, youre not drinkng the water you should be also? As much as I pee when I drink beer, its hard to fathom..lol
dhm1983, Haha me & my friends call that "breaking the seal" when your out drinking... it is kinda true though with alcohol. And holding it in as long as possible? Apparently thats bad for you, can give you kidney stones or something! When I was younger I remember being really proud that I held my pee in for 13 hours until I found that out. Well I'm gonna drink more water still and just wait for the constant toilet visits to lessen. I'm sure they think I'm skiving at work with all my trips to the bathroom :/
Minnie, hahaha i know i wouldn't hold it in for 13 hours but at least for a few drinks!

Nanajo, if you have a sort of bingey weekend - which can include drinking alcohol, or just eating food that's high in sodium or very processed (junk food or what have you), it can leave your body very dehydrated. Your body hanging onto the necessary water that it has (to put it simply) causes this extra 'water weight'. If you drink more water, your system will be flushed and that weight will disappear. It's the same as when you start a new diet / exercise regime - you lose the first few pounds easily because it's usually water weight.
Ah, ok...I'm getting educated here slow but sure..So the bottom line is I must not be drinking enough water, cause I know I'm doing the right things otherwise, well, most of the time anyway..Grandbaby was entered into a baby contest at the mall at the last minute, and I was starbing and the only place there was Dairy Queen, so there went a cheeseburger and fries..Then she actually WON so there went celebration beers..lol I got right back on track though. thanks for the info! :)
I'm now going to try this drinking more water thing and I'll get back with you all on how it works.  Thanks for posting this!
drinking water is so important -- this is a great explanation!!!! i'm trying to up my intake, i can't wait to reach the point where i'm not in the loo every few minutes!

just dont end up like this woman.
I have read that to calculate how much water you should drink each day, you divide your body weight ( Pounds eg.) by 2 and that is how many ounces you should be drinking per day. eg. 224 lbs. divide by 2 = 112 = 14 (8 ounce glasses of water per day). That's a lot of trips to the bathroom.

This varies if you live in extremely hot or cold climates, + or -, also how much you exercise. The more you sweat naturally the more you need.

Does tea, coffee and diet coke count? Because I HATE water. The only drinks I drink are caffeinated and I've always been counting it as "water."

Is this wrong?

So, when you do start drinking alot more water than usual, and keep at it.. How long does it take to get back down to the "normal" amount of trips to the bathroom??  In the past, I went through a stage where I decided I was going to drink lots and lots of water, but after about 4 days, I was like, this is enough.. I was taking a trip to the bathroom every 10 minutes!  I hated that so I quit....I decreased my water intake ALOT.. but after reading that article,... I am definately going to start increasing my water intake.. YAY, now I get to spend my whole day in the bathroom!!! But seriously, how long does that really last?????????????

Yes.

Caffeinated drinks speed up cell metabolism AND they're diuretics. In a nutshell, what happens is your cells move water out of the cells as quickly as they can, leaving your cells with a high solute concentration - and you end up more dehydrated than if you'd had nothing to drink.

If you are truly unable to drink water, try mixing it with juice or drink milk, fizzy flavoured water or herbal teas.
