Is Drinking Wine Bad?
Reason: moved to Foods forum
You may not want to take alcoholic beverage advice from me, but I know what you mean about liking wine. It's not like I'm getting drunk off of it or anything, but when I went to my dad's vineyard during the summer, I got hooked on this apricot wine that my stepmom bought and she finally let me have my own glass after an entire week of being there. Before that I would just take sips from her glass (my dad doesn't drink).
Ya, so to answer your question, don't have too much, but you can have about a glass a week and not feel too bad about it....
What do actually legal drinkers think? lol
If you remember your basic chemistry, you use this simple formula of 1.6 x % alcohol x oz of liquid to determine the calories.
An average bottle of wine 750ml or 25.36oz and 12% alcohol has about 486 calories - which is average. If you don't want to do all that math, just consider a bottle of wine (750mls) as 500 calories.
Like anything else, a little in moderation won't kill you. Drinking an entire bottle is binge drinking.
Like anything, overdoing the alcohol adds a lot of calories, but a glass or two of wine every once in awhile can easily be budgeted in to most adult diet plans.

I really underestimated the amount you need to drink.....take a look.

White zinfandel is actually the product of a mistake that occured during fermentation of zinfandel. It tastes nothing like regular zinfandel, and pretty much tastes nothing like any other wines either.
I know how you feel, I'm missing my wine too! I'm only 5 days into the diet so I'm going to skip it until I've really started seeing some weight loss. I know you can fit it in calorie wise if you plan for it, but if it slows your metabolism than to me it's not worth it right now. (of course that's because I haven't lost any weight yet). For me I also crave snacks when I drink wine. Last night my friend stopped by, I made her a Margarita and I had one shot w/lime. (PMS). LOL! I figured it couldn't have much calories but I still don't want to drink much while I'm trying to lose. Good luck!
Who was that advising a fourteen-year-old to go to wine tastings?
The wine would be better than paregoric, mouthwash, or sterno, but...
OP, maybe there is a good reason why your father doesn't drink. Can you find a time to sit down together and have a serious talk about it? He may have some solutions that could keep you from missing out on many opportunities in the next few years, and for all your life.
to my knowledge a bottle of wine equates to about 1000 empty calories - i also love a bottle of white pinot grigiot - but if you just kind of view if you drink that you've blown the diet for that day - but tomorrow is also another day,
Other problem of course is weakens your resolve and gives you the munchies. The odd glass of course wont blow anything - but i replace my urge with fruity teas - not quite as nice but hey no hangover and no guilt
Hello lilmamalora78,
Drinking one (6 oz) or two (12 oz) glasses of wine a day isn't bad at all. For one thing, there is nothing wrong with a little bit of joy. I heard that aspecially red wine with your dinner may offer some benefits.
You can find the amount of calories in the food log, just add it to your daily food log and you will be fine.
Cheers!
