Drunken binging frustration..

Quote  |  Reply

I realized that 95% of the time I binge is because of alcohol. It's so insanely frustrating how I will do extremely well throughout the day eating the proper and balanced amount of healthy calories, then drink at night with friends and end up binging a lot of the time on insane amount of highly caloric foods, like 1000 calories of bread and cheese, or chips, or chocolate. And I don't even like eating food like these that much, i much prefer veggies and healthy things! I really don't understand...I always know how much i'll regret binging the next day but I do it a lot of the time anyway :( I go into drinking extremely worried i'll end up eating..which i think makes my mind focused on food and then i end up binging...i really need to stop this so i am going to abstain from drinking too much alcohol for a while.

anyone else have similar issues? i am so incredibly irritated with myself, my stomach is huge today after yesterday night's ridiculous eating and i feel crappy and annoyed with myself.

I do the exact same thing.   I recently completely quit drinking, thats what I recommend to you.  Quiting drinking kind of isolates you socially but just offer to be DD for the time being if you're worried about that.

I find alcohol/binge go hand in hand.  I find that the day after I did this sort of thing I would go out and drink with friends to make me feel better about having binged the night before and I would end up just binging again.  Not to mention seeing bar food all night, ugh, that'll set you up for failure.

I have been there... but what did was totally quit drinking for month  and yes you get a lot of flack from friends and I was asked at least 100 times "are you pregnant" but just remember that it is for you not them... after a month off of detoxing from alcohol I now (if I now I am going to drink at night) I will have a big meal for dinner (healthy of course) and that way I am really full and I drink less and binge less throughout the night, I also drink the lowest calories drinks.   I give myself one free day, usually friday or staurday night because of drinking, to eat/drink whatever I want, then I am right back on track the next day with minimal weight gain.  Hope this helps... good luck

One thing that helps me is to make sure that I've eaten enough BEFORE drinking....if I have a good filling healthy dinner right as or before I drink, I tend to make better choices or eat LESS while drinking. I used to restrict cals on days I drank so that I could have the extra cals for the drinks...but I'd binge worse then.

I also switched to drinking wine...I've always been a beer or mixed drink person, so switching to wine really helped me. Mostly cuz I just cant drink as much wine as I would something else, but also cuz I don't crave as bad of stuff when drinking wine. Plus, wine is just better to drink if you are working on weight loss anyway....beer is the worst, but mixed drinks are bad if it's got anything with more sugar in it, unless it's like a captain n diet or something of the sort.

You could also try getting snacks together before hand...so that when you do get hungry, you've got healthy stuff handy to eat, and are less likely to order food from somewhere or eat the bad stuff!

How about this... only have one glass, with dinner. Don't drink to get drunk, and don't drink without food there to help balance out the alcohol.

If you do over indulge in alcohol, grab some lean protein or high fiber veggies to help get your blood sugar back on track.

Or drink a big glass of water and go to bed.

if you're trying to lose weight still, rather than maintain, you should cut alcohol out all together for a little while.  have some fun with friends, out on the town, sans alcohol. it'll save you a ****-ton of cals and a ****-ton of money. it's easy enough to do, too.

Stop drinking. If you feel you can't, you have a problem and should anyway. One glass of wine with dinner occassionally should be fine and not cause 'fake hunger'. But if you drink enough that your are binging...then I suspect a problem/not to mention, it's empty calories and yah...will make you binge on food...esp. greasy foods.

Although I am a personal trainer, I am human first..[most of the time ;)] and this past weekend was my 3 yr anniversary of quiting cocaine. I used for years, for the first few years, only on weekends and would binge on food the following day - non stop. Towards the end of my using, I was high everyday, at work [training clients, no less], at home, I even ran marathons smacked! God knows how I survived!...I was sleeping about 15 hours a week.

So yah, I think you know what to do...just do it!

:)

Ya I think a lot of my problem was that I drink WAY too much and get way too drunk, and then completely lose all inhibition and eat a ****. I'm going to for the next several weeks drink only a couple drinks when I'm out, I think this should hopefully solve the problem.

fitnessgirll congrats on quitting cocaine, thats admirable! I don't have a drinking issue, i just do not want to quit completely because that is not a necessary thing, but thank you for voicing that concern.

yeah I has similar problems which only really got sorted when I quit drinking so often. When I do drink I do like to get drunk quickly, but having cut down so much it doesnt take as much alcohol to get me there so less calories. I also try and plan what I am going to eat when drunk.

I saw a tip which I thought was useful for dealing with less than helpful drinking buddies,  just lie and say the doctor has said you have a liver problem - they should get on your side then and not moan at you that you are not drinking with them!

I've definitely had this problem. I go to a major party school, so quitting drinking wasn't really an optioin if I wanted to have a social life.

What worked for me was telling myself, over and over, until it became a mantra that I would not join everyone else in getting pizza at 3 a.m., that I didn't want pizza (or whatever it is). I know it sounds too simple, but for me, when my mental faculties are impaired, I actually do listen to that ingrained thought, lol!

But my problem was more that everyone else was getting food and drunken me wanted some too, if you are binging by yourself then this may not be of much help . . .
