So last night I went out with some friends. I didn't have much to eat during the day: baguette with jam and 400 cal of toasted fake pizza. So all together about 700 cals of the 1550 I'm supposed to have.

After a couple Jumbo Long Island Icetea's I decided it was time to head home. I got home, obviously hungry, and decided to make some soup. Then it just snowballed! I had one of those instant asian noodle soups, you know, the ones you add hot water to? I know they're high in sodium but I figured that I went to the gym that day and drunk me wanted it. Then I had 2 scrambled eggs, and on top of that I had 1 cup of pasta with olive oil, salt, oregano and mozzarella cheese! At least the mozzarella was the "light" version....

All together that makes like 1700-1800 cals. I know it may not seem like I went WAY overboard...but imagine if I had gotten pizza or fries or indian food! Let's face it, nothing like chicken tikka masala to make for a perfect drunken night haha.

I'm going to the gym today, for sure.

I feel really guilty, when I know I shouldn't beat myself up too much.

UGH.

Another time, remember where it went wrong and don't starve yourself all day.  It's a huge mistake to skip meals at the best of times but particularly before you go out.... a) because the alcohol will affect you more severely and b) a starving body filled with sugary alcohol will eat everything in sight.

Rather than feeling guilty and punishing yourself at the gym... learn from your mistake.  If it happens again because you learned nothing then that would really be stupid, wouldn't it?

When I was first away from home in college I partied a lot and I used to do that...eat really skimpy meals during the day so I could drink at night, and like you, I ended up doing lots of drunk eating. Its hard to say no when someone wants to order buffalo wings at 2AM if you have barely had anything to eat all day. I agree with gi-jane, just learn from it and move on. I think it's actually better to drink after having had something to eat because you're more level-headed and less impulsive.

This is one of the reasons why I only drink about once a year.  The main reason is that even a small amount of alcohol typically makes me really sick.  Being sick makes me want to eat in order to feel better, and so I end up majorly binging even if I've already eaten plenty that day.  The last time I got drunk (which, mind you, only took 3 drinks because I am a total lightweight) I ate something like six slices of pizza, one or two slices of cake, a lot of ice cream/punch mix, and several cinnamon sticks all in about ten or fifteen minutes.  And of course after I ate all that I felt even worse.  Ugh.  Come to think of it, that was definitely my worst binge ever.  That was in June and I haven't touched a drop of the stuff since, and I probably won't for several more months.  I really don't know how people can do this every weekend!  It takes me at least a full day to recover; it would kill me if I did it every week!

I'm really bad for the drunken eating thing too. But since I started calorie count I haven't been drinking NEARLY as often. Because alcohol has soo many calories in it. Do you know how many calories are in a big glass of long island iced tea?? I won't even tell you.

But don't beat yourself up, just try to learn from your mistake. I think your biggest mistake was not eating enough before you went out... like the other posters have said. Combine that with decreased willpower from drinking AND the fact that alcohol tends to make your body want/need food, and you're hooped.

My issue isn't drunken eating but hang-over eating. In fact when I eat when drunk I get less bad hangovers so it actually helps me to eat pizza late night if I am drinking. When hungover, all I want is deep fried greasy foods and to sleep or lay on the couch. Alcohol is an evil evil substance.

For some reason drunken eating doesn't really hurt me too badly.  Usually the next morning I won't be hungry until noon/1ish so its I end up skipping breakfast.  It also helps that my friends are weight-conscious too.  We may each have 1-2 slices of pizza and then agree to toss the rest out rather than exercise "real" self-control and put it away!
