Were you aware that the character of Albus Dumbledore is gay?  I read that in an interview with JK Rowling.

Oh man, that's old news.

Also I ask.. so what?

I only heard it about a month ago.

And....nothing.  My love for Dumbledore is not diminished.  Merely a conversation starter.

Sorry.. guess I'm still touchy about that. Mostly because I don't know why she threw it out there and don't think it SHOULD matter, except to perhaps explain why he fell in with a bad crowd so easily...

Excellent point.  I wasn't sure why she brought it up either.  I thought to myself, well, great, another thing for the book-burners to rag on.  But that does make sense, as Dumbledore was supposed to have had a thing for Grindewald at one point.

Everyone loves a bad boy. ;)

I don't get it either....if she wasn't going to work it into the books, why even bother bringing it up later in interviews?

Hey, maybe she only did it to stir people up, get 'em talking about the books...like we are now. ;)

I think you are probably right.  I'm sure people who interview her are always pushing her for tidbits of info that others might not know.

I'm sure it's good for sales as well.

I would guess that (although I wouldn't know as I haven't exactly written a book myself lol) that a you write a very very detailed character sheet for each person in your story.

I can see a list like....

- Hair: Grey

-Glasses: Yes

-Married: No (homosexual)

-Pets: Yes (Pheonix)

-Education:

   -Primary School: blah blah ect...

Otherwise as the story progresses other questions comes up, and it would be easier to answer if the character had a whole detailed personality.

patzycakes- I love to write =D When I compose stories, I start with character outlines similar to the one you began. I usually end up writing less about that type of factual, basic information and I tend to delve deeper in the characters' backgrounds and personalities, though. Rowling probably did something like your outline; it makes writing a lot easier.

As she hasnt mentioned anything of this sort ... I guess it leaves it to the readers imagination ...
