Has exercise videos alone worked with weight loss for any of you?

I do not want to spend money on a gym membership because I will not use it frequently.  For the past few days, I have been getting up early in the morning to work out for 1.5 hour with Walk Away the Pounds (WATP).  In the evening, I spend around 30 minutes doing an additional WATP segment.  I am concerned that this is not going to be enough physical activity to loose weight (I take in about 1200 calories per day, and I need to lose 90 lbs).

What has been your experience with DVDs alone?  I'm thinking about adding 30 minutes of walking in my neighborhood.

By that you mean not going to the gym, but still following a diet, right? I don't know the intensity of that particular workout. Is it possible to find out the amount of calories burned during your routine, like do you monitor your heart rate during the workout? If WATP is mostly about cardio then to effectively reap the benefit of the workout you need to keep your heart rate within your calorie burning range.

Going to the gym is not mandatory to loose weight. Whatever exercise you do and where ever it is you just gotta make sure you are burning sufficient calories.

I only go to gym to use their cardio machine, i.e. running on treadmill or doing low impact cardio on elliptical -- same thing can be done by running around the block. ^_^;

At home I do resistance training and following a DVD routine, both aimed more to build muscle-tone, which, in conjuction to cardio, helps in burning calories/fat. Plus, shaping your body as you loose fat.

So, my suggestion, if you want to add more to your workout, consider adding some form of resistance training.

You are very dedicated in your effort. Keep it up! ^_^b
Thanks "sweet_tart" for your insights!
i just started exercising and im doing it solely through home work outs. i do step aerobics, balance ball stuff, and a bellydancing video.

i have "dontated" so much money to local gyms over the years, and this time around i've actually got my nutrition going pretty well for the last month, but i refuse to do a gym membership. i know i wont use it, and im afraid it'll jinx me.

it'll be interesting to see where we are in 6 months, huh? :)
hey! here it is months later, and im 26 lbs down!
I went from 113lbs prebaby to 186lbs in the last couple of months of carrying my bundle of joy.

One year later I'm currently maintaining 105lbs. I'm the healthiest I've ever been.

Good diet, taebo dvd, and walking/light jogs.

Yes, it's totally doable.
