E-mo or E-no
... Ok Im just gonna start off by already apologizing anyone i might offend..
Does anyone els think there is something wrong with this sudden wave of "emo"ness... I mean ok, I can understand style.. even some of the crazy ones.. all about expressing yourself! these days.. But when guys of the age 14-19 start stuffing them self into girl pants as a style. I mean come on call it what you want, but isnt that what a cross-dresser or a drag-queen is? I'll even admit that i have a pair of jeans that might make your average dude would might say " think those are a little tight?" But I have nothing that comes even close to what these guys are stuffing them self into... I almost consider this like morally incorrect... is anyone els bothered by this fad?
They don't really wear girls jeans, do they? I just figured they were guys skinny fit.
When I was a young teen (late 80's), guys were wearing tight jeans. They weren't tapered at the ankle, but still tight fitting. There was this one guy, lets just say I doubt he has any kids. He practically had a camel toe goin' on. But hey? That was cool then.
That was back in the days when all the girls wished they were skinny so their jeans could ride 2" up into their butt crack, and you could do the pencil test and pass. (not that anyone did the pencil test, but on some girls you certainly could!)
There are no new styles, just a slight twist on old ones.
I hate the emo look, mostly because the kids all look so malnourished. Guys with muscle tone can't wear those super tight jeans, so by necessity the ones who are sporting the style are teeny, tiny, little stick figures. I'll admit I'm a bit biased because I like thicker guys, but even if I were in high school, I think I'd be a little turned off by the whole thing.
Then again, I came of age during the grunge era, when every guy I knew bathed only as often as they had to, did NOTHING at all to their long, ratty, greasy hair, and wore at least eight layers of clothes (a long sleeved shirt under a T-shirt, under another T-shirt, under a flannel shirt...), and I somehow thought that was cute (I still have a soft spot for flannel shirts and long, unruly hair actually, lol). So, yeah, maybe it's a generational thing...

Actually, I think a lot of chunky guys look cute in skinny jeans. There's something adorable about a pudgy guy squeezing into skinny jeans.
Fashion is a way of expressing your individual self. It's just sad when it becomes a fad and people are just doing it to be cool.
I've been known to dress in the *goth* style. I don't consider myself to be one though I just like the style and culture, but I don't go around telling everyone "Oh yeah, I'm a major goth." I personally hate labels and stereotypes. They suck a**. I was dressing the way I was before most people my own age knew what goth was and Hot Topic became more of a major clothing chain. I like Hot Topic's clothes, but they have kind of made me question some of their items...they just don't seem very authentic anymore. Not to mention, kids who wouldn't even have thought of wearing such clothes go in there now to wear them because it will make them *cool.* Kind of sad really that people follow trends and just aren't who they are. Fads are always going to come and go and may be back again only to disappear again. It's life.
It may be a little weird seeing a male wear women's clothing...it might even lead people to think the male individual is gay..maybe he is maybe he is not. Who cares? You aren't the person wearing the clothes so who gives a crap. Let people dress the way they want. As long as they aren't exposing themselves to the point of having to be arrested..Haha..then there shouldn't be a problem.

Alibsam, What kind of fashion do they have in South Korea?
I know in Japan they have the Gyaru-oh thing. And what is a J-girl? haha...
The hair isn't so... wild here. This is about what fashion is like here and this and see guy on left. For guys, it's typically either slim cut dress pants with button-down white shirts with some sort of vest/sweater/etc or skin tight jeans with Converse or old-school Reeboks.
As I live in S.Korea, I have no idea about anything Japan-related. I will assume a J-Girl is a Japanese girl or one of those Japanese guys that work as "escorts" for older women and look like chicks.
sorry i need to ask what the hell is the pencil test - ive never heard of this.
The pencil test is really used for measuring the "perkiness" of boobs. If you can place a pencil under your breast and it drops, then you've got perky ones. If your boob holds it in place, then they're perhaps a bit saggy.
When I mentioned it, it was referring to the fact that some girls could slide a pencil (horizontally) up the crack of their ultra tight fitting jeans and have the pencil fall out.
- no one did though. at least, not that I'm aware of :P

I wouldn't say saggy if you can hold a pencil and perky if you can't. I'd say if you can't hold a pencil your a small cup size and if you can a larger cup size. I could hold a twelve pack under there. What does that mean? LOL
And just for the record, no that's not what a drag queen is. DQ is supposed to be a deliberately over-the-top parody of femininity, not simply throwing on a pair of gender-neutral pants. The wide world of "genderf***" has a lot of nuances and variations. And what exactly makes any of it "morally incorrect", since you threw the can of worms out there?
If only we could take the emo boys and teach them better music...sigh...
Original Post by curvesaregood:Vampire,'s been around since the 90's at least. At least idiot goth's claiming that they themselves are vampires has been. The concept of vampires has been around since the Sumerians.Emo is over now. The new thing is vampire.
Original Post by amayou82:It's true that a lot of the steroetypes are the same (black clothes, depression, self-injury) but goths a)have better music, b)more interest in the trappings of the horror genre/supernatural. c)generally more romanticism/interest in historical periods, etc. will rock psuedo-medieval or Victorian(steampunk) affectations.I blame that darn TWILIGHT phenomenon LOL
Crazy thing is I actually want to see it, and no I never read the book(s) My lil bro who's 16, his girlfriend was into it and that probably the only reason I even know about it. That and the freakin millions of teens at the theater on Friday, whil I was going to see Quantum of Solace.
But anywho, Can someone explain the difference between "goth" and "emo"?
By the way, though Twilight is vampires, I don't consider it "goth", more mainstream fangirl wish-fullfillment.
ok when i said morally incorect i guess i was refering "ye olde days"
Goth, emo, vampire ... all the same thing when you get down to it. Kids being kids. ![]()
i never heard that before. haha
thanks for explaining.
personally im really attracted to efemminate guys. i love androgeny, tight pants, longer choppy hair. i dont like most emo-ness though. its just kinda annoying, but i havnt really got anything against it.
i think the emo look is only sexy when the person is clean.
i am not fond of the greasy hair and face and filthy clothes.

Yeah, you're right...I have the opposite problem- lets just say that when I'm 80, I'll still not be able to hold a pencil there and it won't be because I'm perky :(
sorry but lolz at the comment above..![]()
Hey hold on a second.
Goth
Emo
and
Vampire
Are all totally freaking differant.
"i know emo stands for emotional..."
--I know this was a few pages back, but it bothered me. Emo is short for emotive hardcore, a genre of music not currently associated with the 'emo lifestyle'.
Also, women have been wearing pants for a few decades now, so why shouldn'y guys wear women's clothes if thats what they're into? Labels are silly anyways.
I think what is much much more worrying than the fashion of emo is the attitude that comes with it.
I have a lot of friends who are emo who think its "cool" to self-harm and to be utterly depressed all the time. And when I ask about it, they just say I don't understand them. We have all been there, it's called puberty and finding yourself although most of us don't make a song and dance out of it.
What also bugs me is the use of the term emotional, to use my favourite quote
'EMO? No musical "genre" should get to lay claim to what is essentially the basis of all musical form!'
Get over it, it's NOT cool to hurt yourself and it's not cool to be miserable.
Definately, E-NO!
