How do you eat your apple?

Quote  |  Reply

I tend to eat my apple sliced with PB2.  It's soooo delicious and guilt free Smile.

I've heard different theories of ways you are supposed to eat them.  For instance, one says that you have to eat an apple and then consume something else 30 minutes later so the apple doesn't rot in your gut.  Your stomach needs help digesting the apple supposedly.  Another one says that you shouldn't eat apples by themselves.

Has anyone else heard of these?

Both Fit For Life and The Raw Foods Diet suggest eating fruit before other food because it digests faster and you don't want "fruit rotting" in your stomach while other foods take longer to digest  - they're also majorly into the "combining" of foods (or more importantly, what not to combine).  Fruit like an apple can always be eaten alone - I'm not sure if there's some combinations to avoid.  Pretty sure your putting peanut butter on it is fine.

Me, I like my apple whole and raw and naked.

I've heard it, but I believe it's some sort of urban myth.  Food rotting in your gut? o.O  I know it breaks down in your tummy, but rotting?  I know if I eat them alone, however, I wind up more hungry.

I like to slice mine up -- it feels more fancy-pants -- but honestly, just digging into the bad boys with my teeth is my fave way to eat them.  I love apples. x)

I bite right on in and devour the whole thing down to the core, a tradition forcibly passed down by my father, and his before him.

If I can (as in, if I have access to a microwave)? Cut, cored, and warmed in a microwave with topping of choice (raisins, or a nut butter). Mmmm. Also good for pears.

I eat them by themselves as snacks. Rotting in the stomach? lol

Wow, Ive never heard that...interesting.  Anyway, I ALWAYS cut up my apple and usually like it either warmed up or with peanut butter. Apples and bananas are also really good with dark chocolate.

mine are usually handed down to me from my boys. they start 'em and i finish 'em. it's what i call the toddler diet. (even though my oldest is 5 now.)  Smile

Fresh, juicy, crispy and raw.  Actually I like mine a little soft, like red delicious appples.

cut, cored and sprinkled with cinnamon and chopped pecans. Or raw, I'll go for that. :)

Rotting?  No.  Think about how long an apple has to sit out before it rots.

...then think about how long it is ACTUALLY in your stomach before another bowel movement.

I slice mine with a knife b/c i dont like the skin (germ-a-phobic)..and its more fun to eat that way.

I like to slice mine and eat it slowly.  It has to be a nice, crunchy apple, not too sweet.

There are so many silly ideas about what happens in our digestive tract!  Here's how it actually works

raw w/ the skin on and it has to be hard, not mushy

I usually bake them with balsamic vinaigrette and cinnamon until they are tender.

Sliced and cored with a tablespoon of natural peanut butter warmed in the microwave.

Granny Smith, raw with the skin on, and me in the shower.  I've got this little OCD thing about getting my hands all sticky, so I'll eat it in the shower, eliminates the problem :)

Gala, the super crunchy ones. I don't even wash them! Just bite, chew, swallow. Repeat. Usually 3 per day, most often as morning, afternoon, evening snacks.

I can never tell the difference between a Gala, Granny Smith, or a Red Delicious. I just think "mm. Apple."

There's days when nothing is more satisfying then just chomping into that sucker, and then there's days where I like it sliced. Sometimes I'll have it with a slice of cheese, but I always found attempting to eat with peanut butter much too frustrating as the peanut butter always slides off.

So I like it with cheese. Bonus if it's sliced apple with cheese and animal crackers. Yumm~!

err, I can't manage just an apple as a snack and not be hungry w/in an hour.  True with most of the fruits.  I usually have a protein with my apple like yogurt or cheese.  I can't seem to shake the hungry shakeys after eating just an apple.  I love apples alone, they are wonderful and crispy just the way they are.  Lately though, I cut it up and toss with cinnamon, nuke it and top with cold yogurt.  Weird I guess.

My favourite way to eat apples, is when having a dinner picnic at the roof of an apartment. You have the apple slices after the spaghetti and tomatoes. :) And it's cold and windy and the city all sparkly beneath you.

Apples are yummy any way, but if you eat it like that it's 10 times more delicious. :D
