Hi I am 66 and still very much alive but am sick of the continual weight gain over the years. Now at 75kilos I have started in earnest to really do something. My biggest problem is breakfast. I love a croissant and bacon with avacardo, or a bowl of fruit salad honey and nuts. But I read here that too much fruit is not good either.
What are you eating for breakfast?
I have sworn by Kellog's Bran Flakes with a single chopped banana for some time now. A healthy way to 'keep you going' in my book!
I used to have a biscuit with cheese and coffee, but that is not really a solid and healthy base to start the day. In Schwarzwald, Germany they have a second breakfast at the time I would usually take another cup of coffee or thea. Then there is the good old English breakfast, including sausages, bacon and chips; not bad when traveling around Brittain.
Since April, I extended my breakfast with knäckerbröd (fibers!), yoghurt and mixed fruit, fresh when available.
I don't believe more fruit is unhealthy, certainly not when you vary it. However, bananas contain much sugar; that's alright when you want to raise your sugar level at the appropriate time (after an exercise, perhaps). Nuts, the non-roasted types, are full of natural protein; so, that's fine too.

My Two favorite things for breakfast are a bowl of yogurt (100 cals) with something called Bran Bites. There are 12 little packages in the box, (70 cals each) and contain alot of fibre. I eat this with a banana or some other fruit and its great. Total calories usually range up to 250 for this small meal/snack.
Another favorite is a toasted bagel (300 calories) with a slice of cheese (60 calories) and an egg, (70 calories) no butter. Scramble the egg in a non plastic, non stick bowl and place it in the microwave for 2 minutes. It cooks the egg into a really nice round shape and fits the bagel perfectly. This is about 430 calories, which is perfect for breakfast. I love this so much that I will sometimes eat it for lunch lol.
Lynadell,
The best known breakfast is oatmeal and not the individual flavored. True plain oatmeal topped with some fresh fruit, maybe cinnamon. Oatmeal is the slowest burning carbohydrate. That's why they say its wholesome and sticks to your ribs. Add some protein if you like with a low cholesterol egg white omelet.
I find if I eat a healthy, hearty breakfast I'm less hungry the rest of the day.
My suggestions are oatmeal made with skim milk-one cup prepared is just 240 calories. I also suggest scrambled eggs with 1 egg and 2 whites-just 100 calories. Pair either with fresh fruit and or a 100 calorie yogurt and you should be good to go.
I reread your entry....it isn't the fruit it is the crox, bacon, and nuts. Although some of those are considered healthy, they are loaded with calories. If you aren't keeping a food journal, start. I swear by it. Write down every little thing you put in your mouth...handful of chips, bite of someone else's candy bar, etc. You will be amazed.
i have oatibix.. used to have weetabix.. same company but different ingredients..
its good..keeps me full...and its healthy..
snack in 3-4 hours on fruit.. should keep u good till lunch time..
i read sumwhere that changing ur breakfast leads u to have more cals..so try sticking to one type of breakfst everyday and avoid trying new things
