I couldn't work out today because I am getting ready for my vacation this weekend. I won't be able to work out this weekend at all also. I worked out monday and tuesday and I will tomorrow. My question is if I was to try and burn 1000 calories tomorrow to try and I guess catch up for the week being that I am not going to be able to work out past tomorrow how would I eat my normal 1200 + 1000 burned in the gym. That would be crazy right.
Any suggestions?
Do you think I should even bother to try and work myself so hard?
Has anyone burned so many calories in one day?
Thanks
Kim

I wouldn't worry about it if it were me. This is supposed to be a vacation!
You're not supposed to worry about calories in/calories out on vacation.

Thats tru but I have been doing this for 5 weeks straight without a break and I am just so used to it and don't want to give up. One part of me is like whatever and the other is like don't give up u are working to hard for that. Thanks for the advice.
Where are you going on vacation. Could you go for a run or even just a long walk each day to get in more burned calories. Burning 1000 at the gym in one day and then eating them back isnt going to make up fo the next few days really.
Im going to hershey park with my kids. I will be walking around the entire park so that would be some workout I guess. I just found out there is a gym at the hotel so maybe I will get a chance to check it out. If its nice out the pool will be opened and that would be great.
Last weekend I burned 1200 calories in one day.....Labor Intensive Yard
work for 6 consecutive hours....exhilarating, productive and tempting
me to quit my stuffy professional job and become a landscaper. I
doubt it's possible in a gym, unless you were to make a full day of it.
I'm a runner and one of the things they stress a LOT is to take recovery days where you don't exercise at all. Your body needs some time off now and then to repair itself and weight-wise, one day isn't going to matter very much.
Exercising 1000 calories is doable (that's about what I burn running a half marathon) but I think you'll find that you'll be so hungry afterwards that any rational thinking when it comes to food goes out the window.
Best just to skip the day (or couple of days) and move on.

If you really are getting the exercise bug while on vacation, remember that there are a few things you can do with no gym equipment - pushups, crunches, exercise bands also fit nicely into a duffle bag, grab a yoga/pilates dvd if the place you are staying has a tv.
If you don't exercise a week, then you will, at worst, get to your target weight a week later. I would recomend that instead of trying to burn 1k calories within a day!
Or just split those 1000 calories up over a week or a month to come, that's a much better approach I think...

Thanks everybody. I am just going to do my normal exercise for the day tomorrow which is an hour in the gym and then take a vacation from everything and just eat right. I haven't tried just to eat right I have always incorporated exercise since the beginning. This will be my test.
This week I've taken off from the gym and from my running program and you know what? I've been losing some extra weight in the process and the scale isn't quite so stubborn. I have always been good about taking days off between hard cardio and plenty of days between weight lifting using the same muscle groups. But taking a break has been a very good thing for my weightloss.
Just do yourself a favor before leaving ... look at what your expendature is on a normal day being active. That is a step or two above sedentary (since you won't be just sitting around). Keep that number in mind and don't eat more than that and you'll be fine.
Infact eating near maintenance every so often is supposed to be good for keeping the metabolism up and keeping the weightloss going.

I'm not sure what it would be. Do you mean the one the site give me? If so then it says 1700, so your saying to eat or I could eat 1700 and I wont have a problem.
when i go to the gym i usually spend about 2 hours there. I do the elliptical machine for about 45 min. at a high intensity pace and i burn 500 calories. I then walk for about an hour and thats another 250 calories burned. Now i know your goal is 1000, but i think 750 would be a great help without having to spend the day in the gym.
I burned 1030 calories (according to my F4 monitor..) one day last week after just 45 minutes (4.3 miles) jogging/running on the treadmill and then doing an hour long belly dancing class (I wouldn't say it was high impact either..).....I felt fine afterwards...
Hi, I am new>:)
I burn 1,300 a day 5x a week...just using the treadmill at 15% incline with a speed no greater then 3mph for 1 hr..then I do burst outs on the other machines..rower..stepper or glider 1 min on 1 min off...np...I get tired..but it is working...I spend about 2hrs on average doing it. I use the apical heart rate monitor that also calculates calories burned and the % of those calories burned from fat.. the machines seems to say I burn alot more.
As for the vacationer....be on vacation...but don't go over stuffing yourself>:)

A really great butt busting workout is spin class. You can burn about 600 or more in 1 hour! I love it!
Hey there, I live close to Hershey Park. It's true, you'll burn a lot just by walking around. My only warning outside of the calorie situation....the food (and everything else) is expensive there. However, it smells like chocolate everywhere. Stop by Chocolate World if you can and take the tour/ride.
Kim, I regularly burned 1,000 calories at a time on the elliptical trainer and did this 3 times a week, in addition to other exercise. It took me about an hour and forty minutes, and I am in my 50s.
You may feel a little more hungry than usual, and you will definitely need to increase your water intake. If you are not used to working out that long, you will need to up your protein intake, to compensate for the increased micro-tears in muscle. After your water, a significant snack of a couple ounces of turkey breast paired with a crisp, sweet red or yellow bell pepper and two raw almonds would give you protein, some fat, and high-fiber carbs. This should do the trick and satisfy (kill cravings) after your workout. Then on your "off" days you just do easy activities. Stretching, walking or swimming are great for vacations.
Your muscles do need time to recover, but that doesn't mean you don't do anything. Just switch to activities that don't STRESS those muscles. You need to use those muscles lightly to increase circulation, so that you can prevent the lactic acid buildup that causes pain and stiffness.

I burn 575-600 calories in 45 minutes on the treadmill (3.2 mph, 5% incline) Its great! 3-5 times per week!
I can easily burn 800-900 in 90 min of a combo of lifting, elliptical and treadmill...I always have a huge protein shake with a banana withing 30 or my workout....But heck, vacation...don't worry about it!
