Hi,
Maybe you are buring more calories than you are taking in..how much physical activity are you doing? If you are doing more exercise than eating then you will continue to lose and not gain. Hope that gives you a little insight
Val
If he exercises at all, he would definately lose weight on 3000 a day. He's been able to slowly gain muscle by realizing how much more he needs + paired with exercise.
He's always been slightly underweight all his life and hates it.
If I had your stats I could better help you, age, weight, height?
P.S 4 days isn't long enough to gain weight, you'll need to work at it for months.
omg i have NO idea but i totally can relate because my little brother eats NON STOP and he wants to gain weight so badly and he keeps LOSING! its not even like he is maintaining, hes actually losing weight! he eats incredibly healthy, TONS of meat, healthy fats, fruit, grains...as well as moderate amounts of junk food! i stalked him for a day and he ate about 5000 calories. and at the end of the day i asked if he feltlike that was a normal day for him, or if he ate more or less than usual. he said it was normal. i feel so bad because hes so scrawny looking and just wants to gain weight so badly. at each meal he FORCES himself to eat more food. he eats all day long. i never see him NOT eating. he lifts and plays sports so not only is he eating but hes building muscle too. so anyway, i know how you must feel. frustrating!
i know ways they get eating disorder patients to gain weight is little things like having them drink juice, that way they are consuming calories without feeling full. try drinking juice or full-fat milk with meals?
Anyway, there might be some biological problem if you're eaing a lot and can't maintain.

Im 29 years old 6 foot 5 and 140 lbs althought the scale today said 135 which is ludicrous..it may be off calibration I dont do any physical activity or very little with the most strenuos being intercourse maybe once a day if that and I know that doesnt burn 3000 cals! so i dunno! I have always been underweight but I want to gain at least 60 lbs!...I wish I was like 5 foot 5 then I'd be better proportionate with my weight but i feel fine though with energy and all that iM just angry more than anything lol
I think it would be worthwhile checking with a doctor. That seems pretty slender for your height and age. There are illnesses that cause weight loss, one being diabetes and of course, allergies. It would be worth it to be sure that there is no medical reason.

yeah my last checkup was in 2004 and I had complete bloodwork done and everything checked out fine including diabetes, thyroid conditions etc.......allergies is one thing I havent checked on but I think I wouldnt feel great like I do its just Ive always been holocaust skinny....well ones things for sure If there ever is a food shortage I will be the last to go!
2004 was four years ago man, and yes, there are things you can get that you don't feel bad right off.
It may help to gain muscle mass (strength train) and drink weight gaining protein drinks.
Gaining weight (fat) in general without any type of exercise will not give you your desired result.
I also agree that you need to get a physical from a doctor with a complete blood workup to check for hyperthyroidism, etc.
The protein shakes sound like a good suggestion. The doctor, yeah, personally I hate doctors, but I suppose something might have changed since 2004, but sounds like physically you're the same as you always were. Oooh, eat the healthy fats: nuts, olive oil on veggies and salad, avocado! Don't give up too soon, it would be like a really heavy person giving up after 4 days because they didn't their weight drop.
Patience pays!
thanks guys today I went to the doctor and his scale said that I weighed 142 which would mean my scale is off....I also had a complete and I mean complete physical including bloodwork and some other uncomfortable things....lol but it cost me $1000.00 as I dont have insurance so I will wait and see what happens the doctor did mention that parasites could also cause this problem if it isnt biological but I have to wait and see in the next few days for the dreaded call....nah I guarantee I wil be fine in all areas as always but you never know so the question is where do I go from there if there is nothing wrong???...in the meantime I did purchase some weights and protein powder that i started drinking last night and thins morning and I will continue with my 3000 calories a day and working out with weights 3 days a week which the Dr said was a good idea including lots of fruit juice and nuts...man my arms hurt soo bad from last night but thats a good thing right?..lol thanks guys hey add me as a friend so I can continue to talk to all about it......ttys

As long as you get enough nutritious food in your body as well, the extra stuff won't hurt.
And man, if I could personally donate 30 lbs to your cause, I would. ;)
haha thanks I wish that would work 30 lbs would do me much justice...lol
Im currently at 3365 cals and still counting gonna eat a bunch of walnuts along with my 3 miller lites and hot fudge with ice cream before I go to sleep...why not also add a bowl of cereal and applesauce in there too which should bring me closer to 4000 ...heck I can even make another protein shake even if it wakes everyone up...lol as long as there is room Im going to eat everything in site....this is also getting pretty costly for me but it'll be worth it hopefully! thanks guys!

Hey!
Yeah, there is like 3300 cal in 1 lb of body fat so if you are gaining weight in 4 days you are eating WAY more than 3000 cal per day.
I believe the general rule of thumb is if you gain/lose more than 3lbs in a 24-48 hour period it is water weight. You body simply won't gain/lose body fat like that. I believe food allergies CAN be the cause of rapid weight loss or gain.
Some people do have high metabolisms. My ex-husband could eat like a maniac and still lose weight in his sleep! My current husband eats very healthy and still gains weight... go figure. He is currently going to see a nutrition expert. I believe there is some value in either going to visit your family doctor or just a nutritionist.

Maybe you should go to the doctor. How are you feeling? My son lost 20 lbs a few years ago and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. If you are eating and losing there may be problems. He had other symptoms also, thirst, leg cramps & generally not feeling well.
Good luck.
edit: I saw that you did go to the doctor (after I posted this) Hope you figure out what's going on!

I did add you so you will show up in my journals list. Glad you are getting it all checked. I feel better already.
I hope you aren't having three miller lites every day... That could lead to trouble and dependency. I know a lot about this subject ...
Is my sodium intake too low?
You have nothing to worry about because sodium deficiency is extremely rare. In fact, there is not even an recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA... Read more
