I eat carbs all day! Ugh!
I'm pretty active (I walk at least an hour a day and try to do as much resistance training as I can), so hopefully I'm burning off most of the carbs I eat. And I know they're all "good" carbs - I never eat refined sugars or white flour. It's all fruit and whole wheat and oats and such. But I'm worried that I'm not getting enough protein. And I ALWAYS go for carbs when I walk into the kitchen. But being a devout vegan probably doesn't help that problem at all.
Usually, I seem to be eating between 300-400g of carbs every day. That number just seems proposterous.
Does anyone have any advice? How do you keep yourself from over-eating carbs?
As a vegan, everything you eat except pure fats like oils and such, is going to contain carbs. To get protein, you have to eat the carbs that contain higher levels of protein like beans, chick peas, quinoa (a complete protein, one of the few non meat sources of complete proteins) and a host of grains that all contain between 10-30% protein. Do some research and you'd be surprised that many of the foods you already eat contain some protein and making some small adjustments you can easily get to 20-25% of your calories from protein, even as a vegan. You might also try an all vegetable protein powder. Up here in Canada President's Choice makes one that is 90% protein, all from vegetable sources like chick peas, soy beans etc.
I'm not vegan but for several years I avoided meat for the most part and had no trouble at all getting to 20-25% and I felt like a million damn dollars along the way so don't worry about it...lol.
I eat a lot of carbs too, although 300-400 does sound like quite a lot! :) However as long as I keep up a large deficit, I still lose weight.
Good luck with everything and stock up on those greens and beans to balance out the carbiness! :)
Carbs are the enemy!!! I gave up bread for 6 months (for lent) instead of chocolate and went running every evening for 30 minutes I lost a stone and half. But couldnt keep up to it once I moved to London, everytime some one wants to meet its either lunch or drinks!!![]()
Good Luck peeps with the perfect body target!!
Hey p1nksh4rpiez.
I used to have the same problem. Since I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian, I did end up eating too many carbs. Now I am down to about 100-120g of carbs ie around 35% daily calorie intake. I add soy granules to all my stews and soups. I also eat all my salads topped with baked tofu. I eat two to three servings of nuts and seeds each day. I have also replaced my cereal and milk breakfast with a 25g whey protein shake. I make it a point to have one high carb day every week as I love my brownies and ice cream too much to give them up completely.
One great thing I have noticed is that if I start my day with a very high protein BF, I don't have carb cravings throughout the day. I feel less hungry during the day and have more energy.
I hope this helps :)
