You can eat chocolate on a diet?!?!?!

Quote  |  Reply

Ok so this is more of a happy vent than a question, but it is TTOM and I am craving chocolate like crazy!! Well, I love how this time I am not "dieting" but changing my lifestyle, because it means I can eat chocolate! Those little fat free pudding cups are great and the perfect size when I need them!

Everyone thinks of a diet as starvation mode with celery and lettuce only and an apple for dessert, but if I am craving chocolate, I am gonna have my dang chocolate and lose my weight too! woo hoo!

Does anyone else have any guilty pleasure foods that aren't so guilty anymore?

I do! Chocolate is one of them; I have chocolate rice cakes, or a 100 calorie chocolate bar. The chocolate-mint thin is my favorite. Chocolate drizzle fiber 1 bars are SINFULLY good, too.

Another 'guilty' pleasure for me is nuts! I LOVE them but they're so high cal. I've switched from cashews and pistachio's to almonds. With almonds, I count out my portions and I am still satisfied!

Coleslaw is another. I love it, but its soo bad for you. I make it with vinegar, cabbage and non-fat mayo. LOW CAL and just as good as the real thing.

thats all I can think of now, but I know there's more.

yum i lovvee almonds too! it is crazy when i tell people i am trying to lose some weight and they see i am still happy! usually dieters are tired and depressed but there are so many healthy options i didn't even know about!

okay...honestly... light alfredo sauce on wheat pasta with some chicken and veggies...OMG- my mouth waters just thinking about it!
Try this....

cook 1/2 cup of dry oatmeal 1 packet of fat free hot cocoa mix 1/4 of banana crush 4 almonds and sprinkle on top

its a large portion too... so you get to feel like youre totally indulging...the perfect treat under 200 cals... it taste AMAZING.
dark chocolates (65+% cocao i think) are acutally very rich in antioxidants and pretty good for you in moderation :D so go for it occasionally! and if you look at the calories on the smaller pieces of chocolate, they can be pretty low calorie, like 20-40 each.
Yes, you can. I still eat everything I enjoy, just a healthier version of it or I splurge on on my free days. I've lost 80 lbs by NOT depriving myself.
"There are no bad foods, only bad diets."

I don't think any food should be forbidden in order to lose weight.  However, some should be relegated to 'very occasional treat' status.  If you eat healthy, whole foods in modest portions 80 - 90% of the time then there's scope for not-so-healthy foods in small amounts.
Oh lord Dark chocolate is my weakness.   I always keep a Dove Dark chocolate bar in the freezer.  Luckily it now takes me a week to eat just on bar and sometimes longer.   Its soooo good to go and snap of a square when my day has been sucky and because I keep it in the freezer,  I often forget its there till my next bad day.

ii eat chocolate every night  :D  well, almost every night...  it depends how my day went  LOL  it's kind of a reward!

AND i lost 62 pounds since 9/4  :D

i know you shouldn't reward yourself with food, BUT hey...  whatever works  LOL  and don't deprive yourself of the foods you love, OR else you will end up binging!!!

Of course you can eat chocolate! My staples are hershey's kisses (four at a time, and they're neat because they come in so many different flavours), and mini-kit kats (one).  I have about 200 calories worth of chocolate on a 'craving' day (that's less than one regular-sized candybar), and it hasn't hurt my weightloss one bit!
breyers, no sugar added ice cream.  Only 80 cals for 1/2 cup.  1/2 cup never seemed like a lot, but when you actually measure it out it's the perfect portion!

Also I love to dip a spoon in peanut butter (about .8 tbsp worth) and use it to eat 60 cal Chocolate jello pudding snacks.  With each bite i get chocolate and little peanut butter.  Tasts like a reeses cup!

YUMMY!! That sounds great.

I am currently recovering from an ED and all the following used to be guilty pleasures, I'm working on making them "treats" or "indulgences" - gulit free!:

  • Chocolate. Any chocolate. Since starting recovery I've had chocolate fairly often, in moderation, but savouring and enjoying every mouthful!
  • Ice cream. Formerly my binge-trigger. I have yet to attempt eating ice cream as a treat or dessert but when I do I will not beat myself up over it, and if I do over-indulge, I'll just move on instead of dwell.
  • Baked goods (such as muffins, cakes, brownies, slices, scones, sweet bread etc). Also a former binge trigger. I actually had a chocolate and walnut brownie, and was satisfied with a small portion, that's all the encouoragement I need!
  • Sugar candy. I love lollipops and don't mind indulging in one or two every now and then.
  • Late night eating. If I'm hungry, I'll eat. No matter the time. (I'm working on this one, but it's getting there)
Recovery here I come!

yes it does! wow. i think im going to have to try that for dessert tonight!

I LOVE golden spoon frozen yogurt. My husband and I go every Sunday night as a date. It's only 17 calories per ounce it tastes just as good as ice cream. Really, it does. They have all kinds of toppings too, which are the calorie splurge for me, but so worth it. If I didn't have little treats now and again, I would totally go on a bad-food binge and it wouldn't be good. So, I pretty much each what I want, if it's in my calorie budget for the day, I just eat less of it. And if I'm really craving something and it's not in my calorie budget, I try and throw in an extra workout so I can have it.  Wink

Everything - because I am pretty much a food-a-holic! As long as you have something in moderation, you can eat it. It is when you go overboard and consume A LOT more than the suggested serving size that things go downhill.

Really though... my weaknesses are: double chocolate chunk icecream, cheesesteaks, cheese fries, buffalo wings and PASTA! Smile Wine too... but I am lucky enough to be such a light weight now when it comes to alcohol that more than 1 drink, and I am pretty much flat on my butt. HAHAHA. So I guess, it is more of an indulgence that I am no longer able to have too much of, because if I do, I will be one sick little lady. Embarassed

You are right though - this site is not to encourage dieting .... it is to encourage A HEALTHY LIFESTYLE! I just wish people would understand that. Undecided

Chocolate is my biggest weakness!  I always crave it when I sit down to do my homework at night.  Depending on how much I've eaten that day, I'll just try to trick my brain: oh, you can have some at seven-thirty.  When it's seven-thirty, oh...you can have some after you get past page four of your paper.  When I'm on page four, I'll be like, okay, just read one chapter of that book...

But I don't believe in depriving myself by any means.  I have a little chocolate every day, and I've still been able to lose weight!

haha! yeah I have quite a few weaknesses similar to the cheescake and chocolate chunk ice cream...

I LOVE frozen custard, but it is SO bad for you! haha. I think I will try to eat frozen yogurt instead, like you said jstone, you really can't tell much of a difference.

Oh and since the pb on a spoon with chocolate pudding cup post, I have been having to exercise much self control to save it for later! It sounds amazing.

I like this post!

My weaknesses are nice chocolate truffles. If I'm good I'm allowed one in the evening as a treat.

I also love red wine, which I've learnt as long as I plan to drink is fine but unlike previously I'll limit myself. My alcohol intake has taken a nose dive since keeping track of what calories I have, but the key is definitly not saying I can't have it just at the weekend when I am usually more active.

duuuude....for me, chocolate is an ADDICTION!!! Of course you can eat chocolate because it stimulates chemicals in your brain and makes you happy. eat it, your just changing your lifestyle :):)
