I would say that I'm always hungry. Of course, I'm not actually hungry most of the time, but I can eat huge amounts of food. I will literally eat until I feel sick and keep eating. People regularly say to me, "Are you really going to eat that too?"

 Any advice on how to make myself stop doing this? I had always thought I was just an emotional eater, but what I do to myself seems like a bigger problem.

I used to do the same thing....many times food would be in my mouth and I wouldn't even remember putting it there!  My solution is that I started taking a huge bag of raw veggies with me to work..so then I ate as much as I wanted.  The fiber filled me up quicker and I felt full all the time.  It works for me...good luck.

I was like this to!! I still am to an extent, but all healthy! You have to break the habbit. I used find myself wondering into the kitchen and into the cupboards and I would think, what am I doing here??!! Also, I believe, inbuilt into most adults is this thing where you just have to empty the plate or cant bear seeing food go to waste! This is our parents fault lol. Well it was in my case. My mother would never let me get down from the table unless I had eaten everything on my plate, and then I was rewarded for eating it all by sweets, cakes, biscuits!

For me it was a case of just breaking that habbit. If it's really bad, alarm the food cupboard so when you dip in, it will make you "think" when someone asks "are you really going to eat that" Have that as a no no trigger. I plan my meals and my snacks, and just routinely go and get my snacks when I am supposed to.

Thats all I can suggest to be honest. That's what I had to do, well break the habbit anyway!! Good luck!!

Thanks for the advice. I will try carrying more healthy, lo-cal snacks with me. You would think that I would find it embarrassing when someone asks me that, and I do, but it doesn't stop me from eating more.

(Ex. I went to Red Lobster with my family for my brother's birthday. I had 30 pieces of shrimp (shrimp scampi, fried shrimp and grilled shrimp) plus fries, and I followed that up by eating my son's fries, my brother's jumbo grilled shrimp and 3 rolls. My brother's girlfriend, who is a very thin girl, just kept looking at me like she thought she was going to be sick.)

Hi.  You have an eating disorder called compulsive overeating.  I have a couple of suggestions, and you can see wht appeals to you most.  First, is joining a local Overeaters Anonymous.  They follow the same 12-step program as AA.  If you go to overeatersanonymous.org you'll find the meetings in your area.

Another idea (the combination of these two ideas is what helped me end my compulsive overeating) is to read the Geneen Roth series on compulsive overeating.  The first book is called Feeding the Hungry Heart, and the second is called Breaking Free.  I highly recommend these books and the solution to overeating that they provide.

Hi I understand your plight.  I second the cut up veggies ( Have to have dip. so I make it with fat free sour cream and a little ranch dressing which gives you 3 tablespoonful's at only 45cal)

I don't do it in front of people well I do a little but if I'm by myself or just with my daughter watch out!  Drive through beware!

This site has really helped me with my accountability I log everything.  My first week down and I'm less 6lbs. ( I know water is involved but I'm still less)

You can do this take it day by day, it's a fight worth winning.
