And where are you from? How do you eat and exercise?

Quote  |  Reply
This site has people from all over the world. We Calorie-Counters come from many different cultures. We have different upbringings, different habits and different likes and dislikes. But do our differences affect how our body reacts to different food and exercises and eventually affects our weight loss? Let's find out.

In this thread, talk about who you are and where you're from and what exercise and foods suit you the best. Let's see if people from the same place have similar reactions to certain exercises and foods.

Or, just post your opinion about this.

EDIT: Also posted in The Lounge forum. (Thanks, bigtwinky. I never gave the other forums much thought.)

Would this thread not be better suited in the Lounge forum?
perhaps, but it is a nice break from the ordinary.

I live in the fastest city on Earth, Indianapolis.  I was at 270, today at 233.  Going for 215.  I love this site and it is the daily reminder for me to remember what I am putting into my body.

Exercises of choice:

Rollerblading, tennis, and cycling.  Dont do enough of it, but with watching my caloric intake, I have dropped about 40 pounds of ugliness.  Thats the two cent version of my story...

I just had a Michelinas lean gourmet 5 chz lasagna (grade B+) and i think it cost 88 cents.  Big fan of these for quick lunches during the work day now!  Good luck everybody!

Well, I posted the same in The Lounge, but it's really dead. There's no harm discussing it here, is it?

I'm from Kansas. Specifically Kansas City, Kansas.
I'm in the county of Cambridgeshire in the UK!
I'm 30 years old and from Upstate New York. I've lost about 25 pounds since a year ago. I try to eat a LOT of fiber because it fills me up. Every day before I go to work I eat high fiber cereal with skim milk and half a whole wheat bagel and some orange juice. Then at work I usually eat a sandwich with whole wheat bread. After work it differs, but I try to keep it under 1500 calories(although I don't always succeed.) Sometimes I have a setback where I eat a bunch of candy, but I always start fresh the next day, and so far it's working! As for exercise, I like to roller skate on the weekends. I also enjoy hiking once in a while, so I try to walk a few days a week before work. And I've been using resistance bands since January and now I notice I look more toned.
I am originally from San Dimas, California.  Currently stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC.  :)

I just broke through a plateau, and Im pretty proud of myself.  :)  I will get to my goal... I will keep pushing until I make it.  The reward will be sweet.  :)  DONT GIVE UP!
New Brunswick, Canada. i started at 205, now 157. I am a sophomore in university (in 4 days I'll be a junior!)

I run in the summer, when it is warm enough, and walk in the winter when the cold doesn't burn my face off. (so, January and February I'm pretty much stuck inside) In the winter I get lots of non-voluntary exercise like climbing my boyfriends 1 km driveway to his house at the top of a large hill that no car can get up to in the winter (Seriously, we keep ice cleats in the car) or plowing through meter deep snow the town is too lazy to plow. (Seriously I'm so stereotypically Canadian, its not funny)

I eat lots of vegetables and am trying most any that come to our grocery store. Recently butternut squash. mmm. I avoid Timmie's best I can. I swear that place alone is responsible for all the obese in Canada! sooo tasty though =P I make lots of soup in the winter and lots of salads and sandwiches in the summer.
Canadian here but I unfortunately live in the United States right now.
I live in a small town - Newcastle-Under-Lyme - in the Uk.
I live in Aberdeen, MD (just north-east of Baltimore).

My wife and I have been using this site for a little over a month.  I have lost 16 lbs. and my wife has lost 13.  We have been eating a lot of fruits and veggies.  Trying to cut out some of the meat, especially finding low fat ways to make the foods we like.

We both like to go on walks, which we do when i get home from work if the weather is decent enough.  (We will go if it is a little cold, but not if it is really wet and gross out).

My personal goal is to get down to 160 (only about 15 more to go).  The main things is to get healthy and get off of my high blood pressure meds.
I live in brooklyn, NY. Right now...I think I weigh less than 180, but my pants are fitting better and looser, so I think i'm losing. I won't check to find out until the first of May.

Right now, I work full time and I also go to school full time, so I have practically no time for anything. I try to get off the stop before my stop on the bus and walk the rest of the way, or just run and down the stairs at work a little bit. I try to maintain from 1500-1700 calories a day, but I sure like my beer, so I let myself do what I want 1 day a week.

I was a size 8 until my mother passed away in October, and after that, I just stopped doing anything and caring about much. That's when I gained 20 pounds. Yuck.

It's coming off, though. slowly, but surely. i love this site, it's helped me to keep on track like nothing else. So, thank you everyone. Even the teenagers who wonder if an apple is going to make them fat! I just love it! it's just so motivating, and i'm not being sarcastic.

Thanks, everyone. Drea :)
I'm currently living in Abilene, Texas.
Fortunately live in the U.S., Richmond, VA right now.  Participate in mostly outdoor sports like mtn biking, whitewater rafting & kayaking; hiking, trail runs, etc.
Vancouver, British Columbia Canada. I started at 194 and now weigh 146.5. Beautiful outdoors here, so that's where I spend most of my time with my three kids.

Wow! So we have Americans, Canadians, and people from merry old England. Awesome!

I hope to add a bit of colour here. I'm Anlgo-Indian, that is, my dad is from England and my mum's from India. I've lived in both places. We are currently living in Turkey and I'm studying in an American school here. So, basically, I'm influenced by four different cultures. I'm 15 years old and the youngest in my family, which is huge, by the way - I have four brothers.

I started on this website when I realised I was bordering on overweight (had a BMI of 24.2). I go on visible results, but still use the scale as a guide. I've lost some flab on my face, buttocks and round the middle, but I'm not at my ideal weight.

My exercising is mainly cardio (on stationary bike or brisk walking in the park). My diet is vegetarian because I don't like meat, chicken or fish. Because of this, I don't like fast food much 'cause it's mostly non-veg. (Good for me!) I try to get in adequate protein everyday through cottage cheese, milk etc. I also do simple things like taking the stairs instead of the lift and help around the house as much as I can - all of it makes a difference.

I firmly believe that just because you are a teenager doesn't mean you can abuse your body by eating fried fast food all the time.

Hi I am Jess, from the Harrisburg PA area, I have currently lost 42.4 pounds with about the same to go!  Nice meeting everyone!
