What did you eat before??
There are lots of topics about either the top foods/meals we eat now (assuming we were once eating poorly, and are now eating healthy) .. just wondering what everyone used to eat (when we were eating bad) either a list of common 'bad' foods or a daily meal breakdown!
Reason: Moved WL to Foods forum
I'd be ashamed to do an actual post, but it was horrible. Thing is, I didn't realize HOW horrible until I started playing around with the calorie counter on here doing sample days...I was floored at the amount of calories I was shoving in...and that's not counting drinking at least twice a week, heavily...that would really pile on extra calories that I didn't even add up.
Even tho I'm having trouble losing weight now, I still feel better for the changes I've made...just knowing I've taken control of calories makes me feel a little better. Now if only the scale would give me some credit.
But as far as what you asked....McDonald's Double Quarter Pounders, Soft Batch Cookies, Krystal Burgers, Brownies, Home made choc chip cookies, heck any type of fast food i was all for it. When I started looking up how many calories were in each food, not to mention the fries....I really was just shocked.
Typical dinner for me at least was a double chili burger from a local place, half a pizza, a whole bunch of rice with garlic and butter, or half a box of pasta with pesto and parmesan cheese. Normally that was followed by a whole bowl of ice cream if i had desert, although i only had it a couple nights a week. Oh, plus more mountain dew then should have been able to fit in my body. No breakfast at all most days. And lunch was often a bunch of possibly healthy cafeteria food if i had eaten less of it.
I still make room for the half a box of pasta with pesto on occasion, only now i have high fiber low calorie pasta which also has half the amount in the boxes...so not so bad.
Good idea for a thread, makes me realise my eating is much more full of nutrients these days. I've always been underweight due to a health condition, however I realised that just because you needs alot of calories doesn't mean you don't need healthy foods too. And I feel better with it.
Typical day when I was about 15:
B: Bowl of some sugary cereal with milk. That was it.
S: Alot of sweets from school tuck shop, crisps, fizzy drink.
L: Chicken burger and chips from canteen, another fizzy drink, some chocolate bar
S: Some supplement shake which I was forced to drink...
D: Whatever was cooked, which tended to actually be quite healthy - as in there was veg ect.
S: MORE chocolate/ice cream/yoghurts/sugary cereal... eurgh the sugar!!
I can see why I felt crappy all day with the lack of fruit, protein, veggies ect.
Fried chicken, pasta with garlic bread loaded on the cheese, drank lots of soda's, juice, snacked alot, pizza, hotdogs, chips.
I'm amazed how much you notice other peoples bad eating habits once you start eating healthy.
I've lost 20lb, eating healthy and small exercise. Cleaning the house, walking my son to school. Once you put your mind to it, and a month as past. you dont dare to go back to eating bad. Because you feel good.
Hmmm....where do I began?
Typical breakfast: big bowel of grits with at least a tbsp of salt, plenty of regular butter and cheese added. Two jimmy dean sausages (F item)
Or I would go to waffle house and have 2 huge waffles, 2 sausages, double hash browns with ham and cheese and a biscuit. Or from IHOP- a stack of pancakes and hash browns with the meat lovers combo.
Typical Lunch: A Po Boy or from Taco Bell: A Cheesy Gordita crunch and a grilled stuft burrito. (F and D repsectively
)
My favorite dinner was either fried fish or chicken with cornbread covered in butter and honey, with fattening baked mac and cheese. Or some really well seasoned homemade chili. Or a 12 inch cheeseburger po-boy.
Not a huge dessert person, but sometimes I would eat too much ice cream from cold stone ![]()
My... how far I have come.
No wonder I gained 49 lbs in 2 years...
My eating used to circulate around heavily processed microwavable meals and lots of cookies, brownies and other sweets every other day. I rarely took the time to cook my own meals. Sweet cereals was another thing I ate quite often and it only made me crave more.
Anything I could find. :)
It wasn't about nutrition, it was about stuffing down the feelings and the more, the better.
I am so glad I found this site, because now I know how each thing I eat affects how I feel and live. Now, I eat balanced meals everyday, and I don't need food to numb myself. Food has it's proper place now-nutritional and balanced.
well once I started my full time job it was no BF or if I did eat BF it was usually a pork roll and cheese on a bagel (i still get this once in a while), Lunch was always a cup of ramen noodles, dinner I usually went out w. my b'f to get food at a fast food restraunt and Id match him in eating. Usually it was appietizer/meal/dessert. That was my normal day. I think for a good 1 1/2 - 2 yrs I ate like that and gained about 27 lbs. It was awful. I tinkered with this site at the beginning but never really understood the actual math of calorie counting.
One of my favourite treats:
I had the vanilla frappucino things from Starbucks- the ones that are pure drink you keep in the fridge. I'd take that (or chocolate milk), pour it in a bowl, and would dunk chocolate chip granola bars. Usually only once a week but that's a VERY high cal treat cause I ate multiple granola bars.
Other once-a-week treats: I'd have a cup of ice cream. Then a second. Sometimes a third. Fridays after school, I'd pop a big bag of butter popcorn.
Also loved mozerella sticks. Had half my plate filled with mashed potato... my major problem was massive portions.
Oh- I often bought a candy bar every day at school.
Not very different things than I do now. But more. And more "special treats" like a second glass of wine, or a bowl of ice cream, or chips and salsa before dinner, or french fries with a burger.
Great thread!
My staples were ice cream, cookies, chocolate in any form, chips, and whatever leftover happened to be in the frig. Ironically, when I would try to eat healthy to lose weight, I would eliminate almost all carbs - very little bread, no rice, no pasta.
I ate enough fruit, but probably too much. I was okay with vegetables - on days that i ate them. When I started with calorie counter, I recorded an intake of close to 2500-3000 calories a day - when I really only needed about 2000 to maintain my then-current weight. Yikes! ....and I blamed my weight gain on menopause....geesh!
I used to regularly eat sausage egg and cheese croisants from a local C-store.
Lunch was often a cheap Banquet microwave dinner (fried chicken most often), or other high cal, low vitamin, high fat, high salt meal
Dinner was usually something involving chicken or hamburger. I used to make quite a bit of Hamburger helper, burgers, pizza (we had Dominos on speed dial)
I also at lots of chips, candy and at minimum a 6 pack or more of Mt. Dew, Coke or other full sugar soda (I have the dental work to prove it).
Add in the cookies and sweets I'd bake regularly, its not hard to figure how I topped 300 pounds, with high cholesterol and blood pressure.
My main meals have never been too bad - our evening meals, I'd say at least 4/7 days we had 3 or more veg with them, the other days I got extra at lunch etc. Still eat things like sausage and pre-prepared stuff (partially due to cost), but I try to balance it with extra fruit etc.
However I was eating a lot of it - if we had sausage and chips, I'd eat up to 6 sausages (not small ones either) and a whole basket of fried chips. Now I have say a couple of sausages, grilled tomatoes,a portion of beans and home done wedges in the oven. Even roast meals I'd have 6 - 8 large potatoes (we now have them cut smaller so I can have that many small pieces, which isn't that much), a lot of meat and plenty of veg, now I eat as much veg as I want and have less of the unhealthy stuff.
However I used to eat a LOT of biscuits and chocolate, as in those giant boxes of maltesers in an evening, things like that - didn't even realise how much I was eating. To give an idea, these past couple or 3 weeks I've been very stressed and naughty again, and still lost 1lb a week, so I really don't know what i was eating before! I worked it out some days I must have been eating my daily maintainance amount just in sweets and chocolate, how I didn't put on more weight I don't know!
Still drinking a lot of diet pepsi, but I'm tackling 1 side at a time, tried so many times before to do it all and failed.
Oh God. I was horrible.
One time, I had Burger King four days in a row.
I use to have two candy bars for breakfast and then another two for lunch.
A "snack" to me after school was two slices of pizza...and then Id still eat dinner.
I mostly ate a lot of frozen foods :(
