i'd love to see the replies to this one...

currently, I am aiming to eat 2000-2500cal a day and see where it takes me. But with the constant relapsing, this is proving a harder task than I expected...

same with me, i keep trying to get 2000+ and although ive gained zilch as of yet, i keep freaking out and taking 4 steps backward.

I NEED TO STOP THESE ED THOUGHTS! I WANT MY LIFE BACK!

In your case, you'll probobly need 3,000+. That's what it took me to even gain an ounce or two a day, and I didn't work out a lot or anything.

3500 calories a day causes me to gain about a pound a week.
When I was gaining, I was on 5000 calories throuh a feeding tubes, and I STILL had a hard time gaining some days.

ok... so help me out here guys

Female. 17y/o. Recovering from anorexia and bulimia. On most days I am light activity (I'll walk a bit and at school I am constantly walking to/from classes, to the library etc. Plus might walk the dog and do a bit of house cleaning)

So... my reccommended cals to gain about half a pound per week is [insert your number here guys!]

I am just starting on the road to gaining weight.  I am also very curious about the amount of food people are eating to gain at a healthy level.

I just start the refeeding stage of recovering from an ED.  4 days ago, I was 6'3" and 142lbs.  I have gained a lot of weight in the last four days as I have been at 5000 to 6000 cals.  I will not be sustaining that level of intake, but needed to in order to satisfy the requirements of my nutritionist.  I know that most of the weight I have gained is water weight as I am also experiencing many of the symnptoms of refeeding syndrome, such as extreme edema and hand sweating.

I wonder how much of the weight I have gained in the last 4 days is permanent and how much I can expect to gain each week from here on.

Anything less than 3500 makes me lose.

4200 is my current weight gaining diet.

And to think I used to eat that much in four days...Surprised

I gain about a pound a week, if I'm lucky.

anyone else?!?!
It takes 3,500 calories to equal 1 pound.
Dr. Mehmet Oz was on Oprah earlier today. He said that calorie quantity has very little to do with losing, maintaining or gaining weight. It's the density of the calories that will determine if you lose weight, gain weight or maintain a constant weight.

Calories with nutritional value will pack on the pounds faster than empty calories.
I'm currently eating 2800 calories a day and I'm not sure how much I'll gain on that, since I just moved up. I'm likely going to be raising my intake to 3000 soon. I was maintaining on about 2500 a day with 20 miles or less of biking each week. Early on in my recovery (when I was about the same weight/height as you) I lost weight on 4,000 calories. After ED's, people tend to have higher caloric requirements. Hang in there!

does anyone know how much of a role age plays in caloric requirement... i dont exactly fit the bill of a child recovering from AN, i am 22 yrs old about 6 mths shy of 23.... so im not growing taller or at "that adolescent stage" in my life... anyone with my experience and any thoughts?

ps im 5'7 and currently about 106-107

Figuring out caloric requirements can happen only on an individual basis, often through trail and error. Recovering adults sometimes do not need as much as recovering teens, but they often do. Once you get to a point of maintenance, then your caloric needs will almost definitely differ. Just try moving up your daily intake by about 250 calories until you gain weight, adding on again if you stop. Once you hit your goal weight, you can lower them gradually. That's my simple advice.

I'm 5'8'' and 92 lbs up from 85, tried eating 2000/day and gained nothing.  I starting gaining when I bumped up to 3000-3500.  WOW, right?

aimengzi how old are you? im way so scared for that much

I currently eat around 4000. I want to gain weight, but I'm not. I'm working under the supposition that I'm losing fat and gaining muscle...because, well, that's what I'm supposed to be doing. I will measure my bf this week to be sure, but I'd rather not eat more than 4k a day. It's sickening to eat any more.

Yeah that sounds rough. All you need to do is add a scoop of whey mixed in milk to every meal and you can add an easy 400 calories at a time if you need too.

this is really old now but

BUMP!

I had gotten up to 2000/day and lost weight so now I'm trying for 2500.

I'm actually sitting in the library right now with a bag of english muffins and tofu cream cheese working on this....:)
