Eat after or before Gym
Im starting to go to the gym around 6pm at night but if i eat before i feel to full when running etc. Is it ok for me to eat after the gym around 8pm or is this too late.
that's when I eat 8:00pm ...but yes it is better to eat after.
Thanks eddie
Eat after for sure! You just worked out and you need the carbs/protein. Also, eat something light an hour or two before so you have enough energy.
anytime man...I think it's because your body is basically like a sponge after you workout . looking for nutrients, and stuff. so for about an hour after you workout your body is basically begging you to get some kind of food or protein in to replenish, and start the repair process.
LOL.... that sounds like my body most of the time... thanks again![]()
You can eat after the gym, no problem. I hear you on the not liking the feeling of being full when working out. It screws with my work out and I just feel semi-self conscious because of a full tummy that could be protruding. Plus, running... up and down and up... that's what your food will do which could totally cause a stomach ache... in me at least! ha ha. I never go to the gym with a full stomach for these reasons... and I feel perfectly fine simply refueling after.
i prefer to eat after... i just feell... lighter hehe =D
I have been advised by more than one trainer not to work out first thing in the morning without some kind of food in my system. It's because your body will go into a catabolic state where it's more inclined to use muscle for energy than fat, as opposed to the anabolic state which is where you want to be.
I've found that grabbing something really light like a banana, or even better, drinking a mix of juice and (pasteurized) egg whites gives me more energy at the gym and doesn't make me so starving afterwards that I undo all my hard work, all without that oh-so-full feeling.
eat high protein...especially because you're a guy...it helps with muscle repair so it's better to eat it after you work out...try eating 100-200 calories before hand of complex carbs....I would suggest a banana just to give you energy during your workout....bananas don't break down easily....if you're eating dinner later it's not that big of a deal because your metabolism is boosted anyway. just try not to eat carbs that late at night.
i workout in the morning so it's a bit different for me...but i try not to eat carbs later in the day b/c your body just converts them to fat if you aren't breaking them down.
Before working out you usually want about 20g of fast acting protein whey/soy. It's definitely better to eat after working out, your body needs the protein and fast acting carbs. This can help keep your body from going into a state of catabolism.
Thanks everyone for your comments
A field hockey trainer/nutritionist once gave our team a lecture about what the right foods to eat before and after playing. She told us that there is a 30 minute window right after you exercise when you should definitely eat. It was something about metabolism or something.
both. if you are hungry right before going to the gym, eat light. A small piece of fruit and water helps. After the gym then have supper. but try to eat no later that 8pm. and lie down 2 hours after the meal.
I eat a bowl of cereal before I work out and by the time I'm done working out I'm starving and have to eat some protein as soon as I get home!!

Figure out what type of eater you are and you might just find the answer to permanent weight loss.
