should i eat when im hungry when the meal is premature??

heyy all i am 16. trying to bring my metabolism back up to speed by eating my maintenance of 2400cals/day.

i try to eat a meal every 3 hrs. but, sometimes, i get hungry prematurely, like 1.5 or 2 hrs after a meal

should i eat the next meal when i get hungry or wait out the next hour or so to eat??

That's what snacks are for! Have some fruit or nuts to hold you over till your next meal. Have a nice day!

Errmm...I don't know if my opinion is the best because im not like, an adult or nutrtitionist, but from general experience, I think it's best to eat something rather than nothing if you're hungry.

Like if I've had breakfast a big bowl of cereal and i get hungry an hour later i'll eat toast - and if it's a lot of calories it doesn't matter because I'm sustaining the hunger and i know I won't be left dissatisfied...

anyay, 2400 cals is a lot, so you should easily be able to eat what you like in that.

Well... find out why what your eating isn't making you feel satiated longer!

And my rule of thumb- when hungry- EAT!!! Otherwise you'll just end up binging on carbs to get that spike!

I'd take a look at your meals to see if you can figure out why you're feeling hungry so quickly?  For example, if I eat only carbs for breakfast (something like toast w/jam), I'm hungry within 1 hour.  But if I have low-fat cottage cheese with the toast, then I'm fine until lunch. 

And I also know that if I don't eat something when I feel hungry, I tend to overeat.  So, I'd have something like a handful of nuts, some fruit and cheese, or hummus and veggies if you're feeling hungry.

One more thought:  How's your fiber?  That also helps me feel full longer.

good i eat fiber one most days for breakfast =)

The only thing that keeps me full is oatmeal. And i don't even really like feeling full, so i don't eat oatmeal very often. I'd advise you to just eat whenever you're hungry. I'm eating 2500 a day and I'm finding that i get hungrier and hungrier every day, so eating every two hours is usual for me.

I'm assuming you're in high school, so that'll make it hard to eat every two or even every three hours once school starts. Frown So maybe you should try the oatmeal thing! Or find other foods that keep you full.

Yes...sometimes when I don't do this I find that I binge eat at lunch or whenever...

I think you should experiment with this and see what happens.  For me, it works to eat when I'm hungry.  Sometimes I come home from work at 4:30 and I'm starving, so I have dinner.  Surprisingly, when I do this, I don't get very hungry later and I stay within my calories. 

ok =) yeah i try to get filled on dense cereal like allbran and fiber one before school starts. i eat breakfast at 730 and my lunch doesnt start till 1220!

That's the worst.  Can you sneak a snack between classes?  If so, maybe you can try carrying an apple, or some nuts so that you don't have to starve yourself for half of the day! 

i think im going to try doing that. itll help me w rebuilding my metabolism
