I don't sleep very well, so by the end of the work work I'm really tired. When I'm tired, I eat constantly. I've tried to cut back, but when I do I'm so starved when I leave work that I inhale food either on the way home or at home. Fruits and veggies don't work - it has to be salty and cruchy! Is there anything good to snack on at my desk that won't add a ton of calories but will satisfy my craving? Or better yet, is there any way to stop the tired munchies? I eat a good balance of protein, fat, and fiber at meals, plan healthy snacks ( for the most part), and let myself have the occasional treat. I'm 36, 5'11", 193 lbs & try to eat around 1500 calories a day. I'm finally losing weight and don't want to end up failing yet again. Any help would be appreciated!
I know the feeling. Have you ever tried the Ruffles Light chips - they only have 70 calories per serving. A entire big bag I think has five servings, so even if you ate 1/2 the bag (hopefully you won't but I know I can) it would only be 175 calories and you get your salt and crunchy fix at the same time. I love them.
Hi, my suggestion would be to eat rice crackers or melba toast [10 = 110 calories] with low fat cream cheese. I also like to snack on rice cakes they come in a number of flavours including one that tastes like popcorn.
When I'm at home I make myself either bagel chips or pita chips. You take a partially frozen bagel [pumpernickel is my fave]. Slice very thinly, then spray with Pam and season to taste. I like adding onion powder or garlic powder [no spices with salt added]. Then I crisp the bagel in a 350 degree oven for about 10 minutes. You get a whole cookie sheet of the "bagel" chips and they taste awesome.
If you want added flavour you could dip them in fat-free salsa or homemade salsa, yum!
Good luck, slimmiss
Thanks for the tips. I'll have to stock up at the store - but not tonight while I'm hungry. That would be a disaster!
Hi it's me the original "munchie" queen. Other things i do to "keep hunger at bay" are:
I keep dried apricots in my purse in a ziplock bag to munch on. They are naturally sweet, very portable and tend to take the edge off.
Also, in the winter I make a big pot of veggie soup which I freeze but usually keep one or two servings in the fridge to heat up b4 dinner, keeps me on track. Good luck, - oh one other thing which comes to mind. A friend of mine used to keep a bottle of nailpolish in the fridge. Whenever she got the urge to munch out she would make herself a steaming mug of hot chocolate and polish her nails while sipping cocoa. She had the best looking nails in town, and lost all of her babyfat. keep smiling!
I really think the Quaker Oat Rice Cakes are great. The chocolate flavored and caramel flavored are my favorite. Each rice cake is 60 calories. I usually will have 1 with a drink (crystal light, pink lemonaid) for a snack. It makes me feel full until my next meal.
If you haven't had a rice cake in years...they have come along way from the cardboad taste =).
The reason you're so hungry when you're tired is because your brain recieves the same signal as when it's tired, hungry or thirsty. So, get some extra sleep or drink a big glass of water.
The side effects of allergy medications keep some people from using them. Natural remedies can be a great alternative, but some are more effective than others.
