Can I still eat my lunch?

Quote  |  Reply

On last week Thursday, I mixed up some Tuna with salad dressing.  It has sat in the fridge at work (covered) since then.  My question is, is it still safe to eat for lunch today, or do you think it has spoiled in the last few days?  Sorry if this is an obvious answer, but I'm squemish about tuna to begin with and I really hate throwing out good food.

I would eat it. I keep things for about a week after they are made.

I'm a smell it kind of person.

4 days for tuna is usually fine, btw. But I always smell things. If it smells good, eat it. :)

If it walks out of the fridge by itself when you open the door, don't eat it. Tongue out

Thanks.  I usually do the smell test too, but can't stand the smell  of tuna even when its fresh.  I had it for lunch about an hour ago.  It tasted fine and so far so good.

I still use lettuce when its got that brown wet stuff on it...  but thats just cause i'm cheap, I would try it and if it taste right go for it.  If you try it and have to spend the next 6 hours with an upset stomach, then you'll know for future reference, and if not then lucky you ;)

When the tuna appears more greyish, i would not eat it. I made the mistake of eating tuna that had sat in the fridge for 8 days last year (stupid me) and i was sick for nearly 2 weeks. I know its over precautious but if i open a tin of tuna and don't eat it all in that day, i will throw it out. It's not worth it lol

I know how you feel about not wanting to throw it away. If it smells ok (and take a small bite to taste it) then its ok to eat it...if not, I would definately toss it. For me, just being in the fridge that long I would throw it out because I don't like when things get all sogged up...lol

As icky as this may sound, every now and then it does happen that I consume a portion of something that is in a questionable state (not obviously spoiled, but not obviously fresh either). It`s mostly due to bad planning and still learning about preserving various foods. And ever since I started eating healthy, my stomach doesn`t seem to be disturbed by this at all.

This makes me wonder - does the saying 'everything in moderation' apply to more areas than one would think? xD

 Sour fish? Hehe

When all else fails- the color green is a sure sign of rot... and as I said before, if it takes a run for it when you open the fridge, don't chase it. :)
