How can I eat a Mediterranean Diet with a seafood allergy?
Asked by captaincool30 on Aug 29, 2009 in Health Conditions

Can you suggest some foods that I can eat in place of seafood to eat a Mediterranean type diet?

Answer

Food allergies supersede all other dietary modifications.  The only way to prevent an allergic reaction is to completely avoid seafood products; however, some people are sensitized to only one type of seafood allergen, and so a doctor could determine if that applies to you.  On the Mediterranean Diet, in addition to seafood, there is an abundance of beans (chickpeas, white beans, kidney beans, etc.) as well as moderate amounts nuts, poultry, cheese, yogurt, and a little lean red meat.  An important part of the Mediterranean Diet is replacing animal fat with plants fat, most especially olive oil.  Read more about the Mediterranean Diet in the Calorie Count blogs.
