I eat to feed my hunger, but if I am not at my minimum amount of calories that I've set for myself, I will force myself to intake a bit more.  This could be by having some milk or juice, or usually I'll treat myself to a glass of wine.

both--i eat when i'm hungry, which is actually kind of rare, and i eat to fill calorie requirements. if i'm not hungry but i have calories i eat something tasty and sweet usually.

I eat at regular times (breakfast, lunch, and dinner), and spread out my calorie target over those 3 meals, with a buffer of about 150 calories that I save for a special treat, usually a glass of wine, at dinner.  If I use up that buffer with a snack or something a little higher in calories earlier in the day, I skip the special treat at dinner time.  I find that I am always hungry at mealtimes, and always satisfied once I have eaten my planned meal. If I get hungry before the next planned meal, I have a healthy snack to tide myself over.

I never have any trouble getting to the calorie target, after all, the reason I got fat was I tended to eat more calories than I burn, and now I am eating less than I burn.  For me, the hard part has been to re-train myself away from overeating, not forcing myself to eat enough.
