Should I eat more today?

Quote  |  Reply
I've eaten all fruits and vegetables today, and even though I feel full, it says I've only eaten about 530 calories - crap. I was going to have some pineapple for dessert, but I thought I should have more to bump up my calories.

So will I gain weight if I eat, for example, a 500 cal dessert after eating so healthy today? What do you all reccommend - should I eat more carbs or fat since it's getting later in the night? Apologies, I'm not quite sure how this works yet! Thanks in advance to any help you all offer, it's muchly appreciated :)

NO CARBS AT NIGHT
eat some cottage cheese, tuna or egg whites.
and limit fruit intake its too much sugar
fructose prevents your body from burning fat

You won't gain weight eating 1030 calories. You need at least 1200 net (net: food intake minus exercise calories) to nourish your organs and keep you out of "starvation mode".

So, yes, eat more and be guilt-free! Nourish your body properly, it's the only one you have.
I don't know if you do this everyday but you shouldn't eat more than that and balance out your meals. It will be the best thing for you body and fruit is good for you but at the same time you need those fats carbs and protiens to help get you through the day as well.
erm..I'm going to have to disagree with uncleben. There's nothing wrong with eating carbs at night. The truth is, a calorie is a calorie when it comes to weight (not nutrients). It doesn't matter what time you eat the calories, although it's best to spread it out through the day to give the metabolism a boost.

Fruits are very healthy and shouldn't be limited. The sugars in fruit are natural.

Health is not just about weight, it is about eating healthy foods, and fruit is extremely healthy (loaded with fiber and nutrients).

Fructose does not prevent the body from burning fat; if excess calories are consumed in the form of sugar (fructose, honey, whatever), then it will convert to fat. Just like anything else does. Including PROTEIN.
I dont believe that it will hurt you at all as long as you have burned more cals then you have eaten.  you have to have around what is it 1200 for ladies and 1500 for guys. so if you want my advise I would eat that dessert and do a bit more excercise. you  cant gain wait just by over eating for one day any way.  at lest  I believe you cant  hope this helps take care and hope you get to your goal wieght !!
alacrita probably meant you SHOULD eat more than that.

Sorry, I feel like I'm correcting everyone today, but I just hate to see peple starving themselves and have the chance of possibly developing an eating disorder. Makes me very nervous. I want to save them from what I've gone through.

stop telling her that fruit is good
it raises insulin levels making it impossible to burn fat
everyone knows fruit is detrimental to fat loss

uncleben. stop trolling. it's pretty obvious you're just sh*t stirring now and it's kind of getting on my nerves.

ilisa don't feel bad for that. it's pretty obvious that you care.

you are right anyway... the only way you will gain weight, muttlover, is by calories in > calories out. you are eating too little and not enough of certain extremely important nutrients.

i hope you don't just eat fruits and vegetables every day? it's really not a healthy way to live, as weird as that sounds.

so yes, eat the dessert. then eat some more. you should be eating at LEAST 1200 a day. that might be too little for you if you have moved at all during the day. :)
Uh.. so is fruit good or bad? I always though it was good.. ):

And is the sugar in fruit okay? It says it has alot. And is the sugar found in fruit bad for your teeth? (well, as bad as the sugar in candy)
I dont know much about fruit but I do know that it is healthy and it is good for you. not to go and bring up God and all but I trully believe that he God wouldnt have made any thing bad for us. just have to use some common since in how you eat it is all   jim
trolling mood? wtf im giving her good advice
you cant be in a state of ketosis (FAT BURNING) if you are consuming too many simple sugars (fructose) which is obviously present in FRUITS

uncleben..seriously. I don't mean to attack you, but you have really disordered thinking. Fruit is healthy for you.

The only reason someone should watch their fruit intake is if they are diabetic, like my father.

Health is not just about weight and weight loss.
Health is about nutrients and vitamins too.

Anyway, guess what..a year or so ago, I ate all fruit for two months. All fruit. 1,200 calories of fruit a day; no exercise. I lost four pounds a month - of fat. Not muscle. For a total of eight pounds. Then I went back to my binge/starve cycle, but that's not the point.

So, therefore, you are wrong.

Thank-you and goodbye. =)
uncleben, not everyone wants to be in a state of ketosis. Not everyone is doing the atkins diet or starving themselves. Some of us are trying to do this properly, in an attempt to, oh I don't know, keep living. Thanks.
fructose isnt bad for your teeth but eating foods lower on the glycemis index helps burn fat. foods ranked lower on the glycemic  index have less of an impact on bloo d glucose levels which makes it easier to burn f at. most fruits especially tropical ones  are high
up on the glycemic index
ilisa how do you know you lost fat? did you get your BF percentage checked?
Actually, all food can cause cavities, and you can get cavities without even eating anything at all..plague builds up in the saliva, naturally.

The glycemic index is bull, unless you are diabetic.

I have a really good friend whose six-year battle with an eating disorder that nearly killed her started due to her trying to diet according to the glycemic index.

Besides, if you eat a piece of fruit with a piece of cheese, it balances it out into a low GI.
Yes, I actually DID get my body fat percentage checked. At that point in time, I was very obsessed and cared about such things.
thanks for explaining all those complicated words for me, uncleben.

you should know then, as resident fruit expert, the problems with a diet consisting only of fruits and vegetables far outweigh the problem of not being in a proper 'fat burning' mode.

of course it is better to consume low GI foods. but you can still lose weight by eating some higher GI foods. full stop.

you should also know eating complex carbs (lower GI) foods with higher GI foods changes the GI of the entire meal. stop frightening the OP for no reason. it's unnecessary.
It is also important to note that as soon as one LEAVES the state of intentional ketosis, he/she will immediately put on the pounds..quickly.

Ketosis mainly strips the person of water weight in the beginning - up to 11 pounds of water weight.

Then the person starts developing a horrible taste in their mouth, bad breath that others can smell a mile away, they get rather weak/dizzy, and constipated. Real fun stuff there!

So as soon as they begin eating a proper amount of carbs again, the muscles will rehydrate and suck in all of this water weight, and bam, most of the weight "lost" comes back.
im not trying to say you should be eating low GI foods 100%, but you shouldnt be eating a lot of fruit if you want to lose fat. it may have health benefits, but it has a lot of sugar and you'd be better of eating other foods that offer health benefits without hindering fat loss
