how do you eat oatmeal?

Quote  |  Reply
there is probably a post like this already, but why dont we put all our amazing oatmeal concoctions in one place?

im at this moment, enjoying this delish mush: 1/3 of a cup of oatmeal, cooked with water and a dash of salt, then when it was almost done i grated half a pink lady apple into it. then added a sprinkle of cinnamon. i then chopped the rest of the apple up to top my oatmeal with a sprinkled brown suger over it. a clasic to be sure but the texture with the cooked and raw apple is AMAZING. share your favourites!

This morning was oatmeal mixed with Fiber One... the mush and crunch are beautiful together!
alwayssss 1/4 cup oats, 1/2 cup water and one banana sliced up...after it cooks for like 2 minutes i mix it up and the banana is officially mush and serves also to sweeten the oatmeal! I usually add some sliced almonds or whole almonds, maybe craisins, sometimes cinnamon, pineapple, mango, maple syrup or apple...or blueberries...but i also eat it with cold nonfat yogurt the hot and cold is sooo good together

also i add 2 tsp flax meal :)
Oh my gosh, Jess, I am definitely going to try your "apple oatmeal" as soon as I can buy some apples.  That sounds absolutely wonderful!

I eat oatmeal almost every day for breakfast, using one of two variations:  1 serving plain oatmeal with 1 ounce chopped walnuts and 1/2 tablespoon of molasses, OR 1 serving plain oatmeal with 1 ounce unsalted, blanched or dry-roasted almonds and 1/2 tablespoon of raw honey.  Sprinkle of cinnamon on either one.
I add some pumpkin pie spice and canned pumpkin to mine sometimes.
Usually with a spoon...  Laughing  I like raisins in mine.

mango and cinnamon is amazing in oatmeal. I also love banana or blueberries. MMMMM! but definitely cinnamon and a little maple syrup!
i like it with banana, raisins, or a little cinn-sugar. but i don't do the raisins often b/c there are so high-cal
I like a crunchy texture in my oatmeal so I add Red River hot cereal. I just sprinkle a bit on top of the oatmeal before I microwave it. I find that oatmeal makes a quick and easy lunch, too.
With my mouth...
Haha, i haave a blog with my 'famous' recipes - oatmeal cheesecake (more of a treat, but still lower in cals) but i usually top with crunch or flacour (bran or yogurt) My fav is banana sultananas, with milk and brown sugar. I usually have it for tea if i'm feeling sick but need cals otherwise i do apples, or peaches, or apricots, or even top with yogurt and rhubabr! etc.
i make my oatmeal 1/2 cup oats, 2 packets splenda, and either 1/2 tsp maple extract or vanilla extract and CINNAMON and lots of it...yum i love cinnamon

I think oatmeal is best using milk instead of water! it makes it so much creamier and full of healthy calcium and extra flavor.

45g oatmeal

200ml skimmed milk

microwave it for around 2 - 3 mins depending on your preferred texture. add 1/2 tbsp of honey and a handful of raisins! I always have this for breakfast and its only about 300 cals and keeps me going from 8am to around 1.30 - 2pm.

I sometimes swap the raisins for peac slices (drained) or a handful of crushed or chopped almonds, if u prefer more crunch

enjoy.

I LOVE my oatmeal!  I have it every morning and look forward to it.  My combos change a lot, but the "formula" stays the same.  LOL.

I always put 1 or 2 chopped fruits, fresh or frozen, a couple tablespoons of chopped toasted almonds, and 3 ounces of vanilla yogurt.  The fruits change, the rest generally stays the same, at least for now, until or unless I get tired of it.

My current favorite is putting chopped apples in with the oatmeal while it's cooking.  When it's done, put more chopped raw apples, a couple tablespoons of chopped toasted almonds, and 3 ounces of French vanilla yogurt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.  YUM.

I did frozen peaches and bananas today.  I cooked the peaches in with the oatmeal to get them soft.  I am a big fan of texture and crunch, so I was afraid of my peaches getting mushy, but it actually turned out great.  I sprinkled a little cinnamon.  With this and the vanilla yogurt, it tasted a lot like peach pie!  I get crunch from my almonds and added texture from the banana (or whatever other fresh fruit I put in there).  It was great.

I also love it with strawberries and bananas.  (Sniff sniff, bye bye strawberries, see you next year, boo hoo).

Blueberries and bananas.

Peanut butter and jelly.  Peanut butter and jelly and banana.

Dried cranberries and roasted sunflower seeds.

Bananas and chopped walnuts.

I'm game for putting anything in there.  I like to keep it interesting and I get tired of the same thing quickly, so I switch it up a lot.  I also always make mine with milk, not water.  Makes it super creamy and delicious.

I'm always afraid of what I'll do with myself when the munchies set in if I don't have my morning oatmeal!

300 cals with milk, honey and raisins - is that right? I struggle to keep my oatmeal cal content down because i go crazy with the honey and bananas so i tend to keep the milk to a minimum...
so many excellant ideas, im not srue what to try first!  im going to cook my oatmeal in my favourite vanilla almond milk, and the vanilla yogurt idea sounds super yummy too! and almonds...i could definately go for that.
jess, I LOVE the almonds in there.  Like I said, I love anything with crunch.  For me, I have decided I like toasted almonds in there much better than raw almonds, which are good too, but the toasted wins out for me.  I buy the huge bag of raw almonds at Sam's, keep them in a Ziplok in the fridge, and take out about 1 to 2 cups or so (enough for a whole week of using them in oatmeal every day, plus salads, wraps, and a few straight up here and there), and spread them out on a baking sheet in a single layer.  Bake them at 350 for 10 minutes, stirring around once halfway through.  Store them in a Tupperware once they've cooled, and you've got deliciously toasted, crunchy almonds to enjoy for the whole week.  Of course, you could also go crazy and toast enough for more than a week at a time to save time!
thanks jdbcmt, i am definately picking up some almonds tommerow, toasting them sounds so yummy.
i like mine cooked until extremely thick. then i mix in milk so that its milky with chunks of oatmeal threw it. i like the hot and cold together like that. i use cinnamon and splenda in mine, never thought of adding apple. lol.
