how do you eat oatmeal?

Quote  |  Reply
there is probably a post like this already, but why dont we put all our amazing oatmeal concoctions in one place?

im at this moment, enjoying this delish mush: 1/3 of a cup of oatmeal, cooked with water and a dash of salt, then when it was almost done i grated half a pink lady apple into it. then added a sprinkle of cinnamon. i then chopped the rest of the apple up to top my oatmeal with a sprinkled brown suger over it. a clasic to be sure but the texture with the cooked and raw apple is AMAZING. share your favourites!

My base oatmeal is as follows: ground flax seed, cinnamon, brown sugar substitute, fiber additive. My fruit usually changes, though I never though of some of the fruit combos posted here. I am excited to give them ALL a try! And here I was, starting to get tired of oatmeal :)
might sound a little wierd...but i just make the normal oatmeal (usually maple brown sugar, low sugar..ha..) and then heat up a granola bar until it kind of falls apart, then add it to the oatmeal...depndin on the flavor combo it actually tastes good

I eat only steel cut oats about 4 days per week.

1/4 cup dry cooked in 1 1/2 cups water for about 20ish minutes.  I add 2 tablespoons ground flax seed, cinnamon, nutmeg and blueberries.  Once a week I add chopped dried figs instead of blueberries.

I had oatmeal with peanut butter and reduced sugar apricot preserves today. amazing!
I tried the peanut butter in my oatmeal too, but with banana and cinnamon.  awesome!!
REDKITTY - Really?  A 1/4 cup of SC oats and a cup and a half of water and it's not too watery???  I have got to try making these! That would make a big bowl of oatmeal! Do you just bring to a bol and then reduce to simmer?  Covered or uncovered??

Thanks,

Linda

I have always enjoyed the flavored oatmeal but its sooo high in sugar and haven't been able to eat in a long time because of that. This morning I made regular oatmeal (1/2 cup of oats, 1 cup of water) and then put sliced up fresh strawberries and a dash of vanilla soy milk.

I just want to say thank you to all the people posting that you make your oatmeal with water and add a splash of milk at the end.  This is such a great idea!  I'm a "milk maker" myself and won't make it with water because I like the creamy texture the milk adds.  I'm wondering, though, if adding a splash at the end wouldn't do the very same thing for WAY LESS calories.  I cook mine to death anyway so most of the liquid is absorbed/evaporated (or boiled over, LOL), so adding a splash shouldn't make it too soupy.  I already add a little yogurt, too, at the end and, upon further deliberation, I'm thinkin' this is overkill.  I could probably easily save myself 100+ calories in milk and never notice it.  Will try.  Thanks again, everybody!
