Hello Everyone!!
I have a BIg problem. I have gained weight before getting pregnant. I am now 160 pounds and this is my 4th month. I dont want to gain more weight. I am so scared......tell me what to eat and what not to...i think i am going into severe depression.
Thanks

Eat everything you fancy eating. Your body will start telling you exactly what it's after if you listen to it. Don't over eat but don't diet either. You're creating a person in there who needs all the nutrients you can give it to grow healthy and strong. The weight you gain is more that just the weight of the baby. Your placenta is getting bigger and you're carrying a lot of amniotic fluid too. Everything will grow. Don't forget that your boobs will possibly triple in size (mine did!) and they'll weigh a tonne!
Anyway, like I say, now is not the time to diet but still only eat for one though. The old wives tale about eating for two isn't true.
Good luck.
If you feel depressed do talk to your doctor or midwife and ask their advice. Pregnancy affects different people in different ways and it should be a happy period of your life, not a cause for upset.
My sister is pregnant right now and she gained about 60 pounds with her first. Her doctor said "we're not going to do this that time, right"? She told me you really only need about 300 extra calories a day, so yeah, the eating for 2 thing is not really true. I was surprised, but I guess it makes sense since that is adding a pound every 11-12 days and will total about 25 pounds or so in 40 weeks. I guess the math really is always right.
I have been told that you will crave what your body needs, but getting your protein, calcium and folic acid is probably top priority, as is taking prenatal vitamins. Besides that, you probably know what is best: fruits, veggies, fiber, lowfat protein, lowfat cheeses, etc.
Thank you so much for your replies. I will try to eat healthy food.

Hi Amdee ~
Have you discussed your concerns with your doctor?
Unfortunately, weight gain during pregnancy is necessary but I understand your concerns. And for a lot of pregnancies, most of the weight gain is in the last trimester. The key is to try and eat as healthy as possible while making sure that you are eating enough and drinking plenty of fluids.
Good luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for. :)
Eat when you're hungry and make sure when you eat extra, it's healthy. I get the whole craving thing but trust me, only about 30lbs comes off with that baby no matter how much you put on.
Are you active? If not, you should at least consider walking 30-60 minutes per day if you are going to eat a lot.
My first pregnancy I sat around and just ate normally with some extra and gained 80lbs. My second pregnancy I ate normally with extra every now and again (but not as much as the last time) and exercised daily and gained 15lbs (lost 30 when he was born too).
