I eat bread, and I lose weight.  I just make sure it's within my calories.

I don't think it's necessary to cut out carbs.  Maybe cut back, but not cut out.
tell me about it my entire day of 1800 cals was carbs today besides my salad i just had.
salad is carbs....
don't cut out any food group. just make them count. make sure your carbs are whole grain and within a decent percentage for what you need in a day. I love bread too.
I'd never drop bread! You can definitely lose still, I've lost about 95 lbs and have had a lot of sandwiches and other forms of carbs. Salad is not my preference. :-/

I have lost about 23 pounds (I am only 5 foot 1 and started at 147ish, so that's  A LOT) and I never never never worry about carbs. Don't worry, count calories and focus on healthy food that keeps you happy and sane.

THANKS GUYS I REALLY NEEDED THAT TO FEEL ALOT BETTER ABOUT MY MORNING TOAST LOL WELL ALL OF YOU KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK AN THANKS AGAIN
This is why atkins ruined America.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH CARBS!!!

With out them your body won't function properly.

It is also essential that you get your carbs from sources like whole grains and healthy fruits and veggies, not from processed snack food and pastries.

i personally find i get plenty of carbs without bread. i eat two toasts on the weekend with my egg breakfast or oatmeal. otherwise, i steer clear just because... ya.. i get plenty of carbs. totally agree that the atkins-mania ruined america, but thats what you get when you combine get-rich quick people with those seeking a magic bullet to weight loss.

i only limit my carbs to make more room in my menu for protein so i don't bust my calorie limit.

The only thing in a salad that would be a load of carbs is maybe CORN!  Yes, root veggies have sugar, but they are needed in your diet, just like complex carbs.  My suggestion is DO NOT cut out carbs all together or you'll end up binging big time...then you'll gain the wait back really fast.  They are full of necessary amino acids, nutrients and fiber that your body needs. Just don't go over board! :)
As long as the carbs you're cutting are the highly processed, sugary, nutrient-less carbs, then you'll be fine--but, by all means, don't cut out whole grains! And fruits! I'm a big fan of whole grains: brown rice, quinoa, whole wheat bread, etc. I tried once to do South Beach and cut them all out for the first two weeks and I felt terrible--and it's because I don't eat the processed stuff. I made it three days, then I decided I couldn't do it.  Cutting out everything with carbs is bad for your health.

I've lost 7lbs in one month (it would be more if my birthday hadn't been this month!) and I eat bread and carbs! We've gone almost entirely whole wheat, and I just budget cals for bread and look for lower cal breads.  I don't care what people say about bread and dairy. I'm losing weight without giving them up!

The entire Atkins craze is what got the entire carb revolution started. Technically the body does not need carbohydrates (in the nutritional sense), but they have become a shortcut, or placeholder if you will, in our diets.

Carbohydrates are a series of fuels for the body. The body must undergo processed in order to synthesize glucose (simple sugar) for cellular usage. This is why the type of carb counts most.

Complex carbs require energy to be broken down through a series of chemical processes thus expelling calories in order to convert them. Simple carbs like sugar (glucose, fructose, sucrose) are closer to the end result and require little in the way of processing. That's why when we eat sugary foods we get a quick boost, and a hard fall off. It's simply because it is surged into the blood stream. However with a complex carb it's release of glucose into the blood stream is slower, reducing the sharp fall off and giving us energy throughout the day.

The downside to this is insulin response. When we have high levels of sugar in our systems from consuming too many carbs, or 'bad' carbs (think candy), the body continues to process sugar as fuel since it is in excess, and easier to metabolize. This leaves fats, and protein, to become stored as body fat rather than metabolized. THIS is where Atkins comes in. The initial period of carb-fasting is designed to reduce the sugar surge, which reduces insulin, which triggers a ketosis cycle from the liver. Ketosis is the process that fats (lipids) are consumed in order to provide energy to the body.

If you cut calories too much (sub 1800 for most of us) then your body will do neither, and will process your muscle protein rather than fats. This is a catabolic process and it is the number one thing you want to avoid. It will make dieting very hard, and require you to work twice as hard to put on lean mass, which is what burns fat

Long story short... eat that toast and enjoy it. Just don't go overboard on the carbs.
