Have you eaten anything unusual recently?
It wasn't as sweet as a regular banana, but for novelty value.. it was good!
Just wondering if anyone has had any foods they consider strange recently, and.. how did it taste?
I had fried pickles last night, as I had a real splurge meal at a bar. Fried pickles are so awesome -- salty and hot and crispy and these were spicy. Mmmmmm.
Also, my friend has been buying blood oranges and he gave me a couple. I don't like them as much as regular oranges, but for novelty value...! They have red insides and a slightly bitter taste.
I bought some celeriac at Whole Foods Market when I did my shopping a few days ago. I just boiled it and ate it like that and I thought it was lovely. Sort of like turnip texture with a mixed but subtle celery/potato flavor.
I also purchased a rutabaga, and some kohlrabi, but I haven't cooked them up yet. Golden beets are another unusual thing I've tried and come to love, so they're regulars on the grocery list now, and celeriac will be too.

I love it steamed, and it's ungodly low in calories. It is slightly bitter, but if braise it before you steam it it gets this wonderfum smokey flavour.
Excellent.
Especially now that the *almost* summery weather is creeping in.
And by 'Strange' I pretty much mean anything that isnt an apple, orange or banana :p
Well, I just ate plain kelp ![]()
Freeze dried durian crisps. Got it as a souvenir from Thailand a few days ago. They don't smell at all, as opposed to fresh durian, and are so fun to munch on. Well, most freeze dried fruits are fun to eat :)
None of this is remotely healthy....
