Eating all your calories at once....

Quote  |  Reply

I was wondering if I eat all my calories within a certain time frame does that ruin my chances of losing weight.  For example.  I have breakfast in the morning which is roughly 350 calories for lunch  I really dont have time to eat so I will have a snack for like 100 calories or so and when I get home I eat all the rest of my calories but I stop at a certain time.

It depends on the amount of exercise you get and the types of foods you are consuming...

I will eat about 700 calories in about 3 hours from dinner to snacking.  For dinner I will have some pasta with veggies and maybe a protein then about an hour to 2 hours later I will have a snack then I am done for the night.  I wake up and do the same thing the next day.  I try to space my eating out but the only time I really have to sit down and eat normally is when I get home.

You are going to get a lot of different opinions on this but here is mine. I keep track of my calories and then average them over 7 days. I try to stay under 1200 a day. So if one day I eat 1500 and the next I eat 900 I am golden.  I lose lots of weight like this and it keeps things interesting. Also if I am expecting a party or a dinner out I can save up calories. I do not think it matters if you eat all your calories in one meal or a lot in one day as long as it averages out. Have fun.

It shouldn't matter when you eat your calories but it does.  If you have a steady intake of light meals and snacks throughout the day your body will burn energy (fat) more efficiently and steadily than if you starve it in between breakfast and supper.   Also, if you try to survive on 100 cals during the day (which is when you need the most energy) you are very likely to overeat or even binge in the evening in an attempt to play catch-up.  Sugary/fatty foods also become more appealing when your blood-sugars have dropped too low.  Maybe not today or tomorrow, but at some point it will happen.   Overweight people are more likely to skip meals than people who don't have a weight-problem.

"I don't have time to eat" is no excuse.  Give mealtimes, your weight-problem and therefore your health top priority.  Best of luck

Thank you.  As I read through some posts yesterday I realized that I can make at least a sandwhich or a salad the night before and eat that.  I can also make chicken or tuna salad and bring crackers and eat that during the day.  The problem is I have clients throughout the day and no real time to sit down and eat and I dont want to eat running around, but if that is what I have to do then I guess i will do that.
