Eating based on blood type

Quote  |  Reply

I have been doing some reading about eating based on your blood type and it is very interesting. It is proven that certain blood types are prone to certain diseases. A study was also done on blood types and how each type reacts to stress and stressful events. There are also theories that the foods  you eat determine health, how you feel and how you loose and gain weight.

I know for my blood type it is recommended that I eat more meat/protein, fruits and vegetables and limit my intake of carbohydrates and grains. Especially wheat and it makes sense. I have told my family for years that I feel much better when I eat red meat or chicken and fruits and vegetables. If I eat too many carbs or wheat products I tend to gain weight and feel poorly. I love carbs but do notice a difference when I eat them. I could not follow these diet recommendations strictly but I have make a few changes.

There is potentially something to investigate as far as eating based on blood types and such, but nothing based on D'amatos work has the faintest connection to reality.

A lot of people have wheat allergies, are sensitive to gluten, or are lactose intolerant, and it makes sense for them to limit intake of things they're allergic to.

D'Amado manages to recommend that people of Asian descent who're almost universally lactose intolerant and tend towards gluten sensitivity increase their intake of grains and dairy based on the most prevalent blood types in that ethnic type.

Wonderful.

D'Amado is an uneducated fraud. He's a "naturopath" from an unaccredited self-styled "university" in Seattle, and has no idea what he's talking about when it comes to things like the order in which blood types appeared in humans, the natural diets our evolutionary history predisposes us to, or the actual biochemistry of human blood.

I have head about that from a former colleague that used to live by this.
I do not have much faith in "Eat right for your type" theory.
Granted, our bodies are like a machine, like a car if you will: it does matter if you put gazoline in a diesel motor or vice versa. Just like if you are allergic to something then you shouldn't eat it.

What I find really bad, downright irresponsible even, with D'amato's theory is that exclusion of whole food groups is promoted. How can it be good for omnivores like us to exclude whole food groups? Whatever happened to the healty and well-balanced diet?

No, I would advice anyone not to listen to D'amano's claims, I honestly doubt that in the long run they will lead to anything good.

I agree that cutting out entire food groups is not good but some of it makes sense to me. I do believe that certain blood types are prone to certain diseases and maybe personality traits also. It is just something to think about.
