Does eating before bed hurt growth?
Ok so I've heard before that eating before bed preven of your HGH (Human Growth Hormone) from producing. So would doing this slow your growth? I ask because I'm short and want to do everything possible to reach a good height.
It won't make any difference what time of day or night you eat. If you have a medical problem such as a lack of growth hormone, that has to be treated medically. Otherwise the two things that make the biggest difference to your growth potential are a) your genes and b) good nutrition. You have to be chronically malnourished/starved in order for your growth to be stunted and, even then, if you improve your nutrition at a later stage you can find you catch up with your growth
Back in May you posted that you were an extremely low weight and you were eating next to nothing. That would have certainly been affecting your growth. Have you succeeded in substantially increasing what you eat & gaining weight now? 'Eating before bed' would be a very smart thing for you to do.
Yes, I've gained back my weight plus 5 pounds for the extra 1/2 inch I've grown. I guess I've just read that it raises insulin levels, which decreases the amount of HGH you produce, and sleep is when HGH is most active.
And thank you for the lack of nutrition comment, I kept thinking "If starving children from 3rd world countries don't grow, I probably won't too"... but I guess they never get a chance to make up for their lack of nutrition like I did.
Well done regaining the lost weight and getting past that problem. Try not overthink the whole thing now. Eating should be a really natural thing that you do without thinking. A bit like walking down a flight of stairs.... if you let your feet go you can skip down them without any conscious effort. If you start thinking about where your feet go next you usually trip up.
So eat well, eat plenty and eat regularly and I'm sure your HGH will be absolutely dead normal.
