Eating Birthday Cake and Ice Cream
Tomorrow I'll be eating way over my calorie limit of 1300-1400. It's my daughters 21st Birthday and we're going out to eat and having cake and ice cream then having drinks.
Now my question is.....This is the beginning of the week for me (Monday's are my WI days) so the rest of the week, if I eat only 1200 cals, should I still lose weight??? I don't want the whole week to be a "wipeout" for me.
I'd stick to regular calories for the rest of the week, just try to exercise more, tomorrow and the rest of the week. Good luck and congratulations to you daughter.
Here's what you can do..
Say you normally have 1350 calories per day. That means 9450 calories per week.
But since you are planning on eating ice cream, cake, and then drinking, that will cause you to go over your caloric limit by about 1000 calories.. which means that (with caloric restriction) you will probably be consuming 2000 calories for that day.
In order to make up for this "free day," for the rest of the week you should consume 1240 calories per day.
Hope that makes sense.. if not then feel free to send me a message with questions!
Katie
Thank you so much for the help! I'll definitely exercise all week and I'll eat the 1240 cals a day and see how I do.
Anymore suggestions out there???
EDIT: Katydid - You are so right. This is once in a lifetime event and I should just enjoy it. I just don't want the whole week to be wasted. I still want a loss for the week.
Well said, Katy.

Eat and drink whatever you want (in moderation)! Get back to your normal eating habits the next day, but dont stress. Remember...this is a lifestyle change, not a diet. People arent perfect every day, and this is a once in a lifetime event - enjoy it!

Katie, I was going to say the same thing to her!
Also, if you want to, you could try eating very carefully during the day, and saving most calories for the night.
Like, egg whites in the morning with tomatoes or bell pepper, a spinach salad for lunch. Strawberries and carrots for snacks.
That way, you haven't starved yourself all day, but you don't have to worry as much about calories.
On birthdays and special holidays, that's what I usually do.

Just make sure you ENJOY the cake and ice cream, don't feel guilty about it and don't assume that it's one foot on the slippery binge slope.
Like someone said in the "do you fall off the wagon"thread...you are merely taking a detour on the road to your ideal body ;)
If you're worried, I am living proof. I lost 90 lbs. while still celebrating special occasions (ie. my best friend getting married and me not caring what I ate or drank for the entire day). Ultimately, it didn't hold me back.
Well, it's 8 pm and so far I have eaten a banana (at 8 am), another banana and an apple (around noonish), then at 5 pm I made tacos for my daughter and I ate 2, then I had a small piece of cake and alot of ice cream! Then some chips and dip!!! lol It's been so long since I've had those things that I feel sick now! :( I enjoyed it at the time. In a little while, we're going to have a couple drinks. Ohhhh noooooo! lol I am drinking lots of water though. But I'm not keeping track of calories. I just can't! I don't even want to know!
Tomorrow I'll start again. Who knows, maybe this will help my weight loss this week!

I agree with pen coed. You should ENJOY your daughter's birthday. We have to remember that food is not an enemy and it's okay to enjoy the things that we like sometimes, particularly for such an occasion as this one! One day of a few extra calories is not going to be enough to harm you, just as long as you get back to your normal routine the next day.
Ok, today I'm back to my routine! No more cake, even though it's in the kitchen calling my name! lol
I won't have any of it!!!! Nope, no more! All that sodium too. My fingers are all swollen and my rings are tight. Yikes! I really did it good yesterday.
I didn't get on that scale today either! I can't bare to see the damage. :( I'll wait til Monday to see how this week is going to turn out.
Best advice. If you can't avaoid the calories, UP THE ACTIVITY!
I just had my daughter's graduation party (and mine too), a picnic, of all things. Can't avoid the food, but volleyball with the kids and a long walk did the trick.
Every time I see this thread I think of eating cake and ice cream.
Thanks.
I'm sorry. But cake and ice cream is somethng we all have to face at one time or another, right? I hate that the cake is still in the kitchen. I tried to get my son to take his friend some tonight and he wouldn't do it. :( So I ate some more! Until this cake is gone, it's sooooo tempting! Cake is my favorite, along with chips and dip! I'm in trouble this week, for sure.
