Eating out of boredom
Okay, I get hungry at mealtimes ++ so I eat ++ thats fine, but then in the evenings I get bored ++ just start munching. I can't seem to stop myself! Help pleeaseee !!!
I do it too. I don't know, just try and catch yourself before you start and distract yourself with something I suppose. But... easier said than done :-/
I TOTALLY understand...that's why I got fat to begin with. Are you going to the gym often? I find going to the gym after work, cooking dinner, eating later and relaxing helps fill my day and I don't munch afterwards.
If I feel peckish, and I know I'm not really hungry, I clean or go for a walk or anything to distract myself. If the peckish feeling doesn't go away, I give into temptation (a little) and usually that goes away), but honestly, keeping busy is the best.
I feel really good after an active day and I sleep much better too. Good luck!
I try mostly to keep busy. Even if I am just browzing calorie count hehe
I also keep celery, cucumber slices, or baby carrots in the fridge pretty easily accessible and in the front of the fridge so when i go to the fridge i see them first and grab those instead of something else. i also keep a big water bottle on the door so ill take a drink of that instead of eating. might help!
Here are some things that have helped me:
- drinking zero-calorie drinks (diet soda, water with lemon, crystal light, iced tea, etc)
- drink warm (low or no calories) drinks (tea, decaf coffee, hot water with lemon)
- chew sugar free gum
- freeze zero-calorie drinks to make "popsicles" or "flavored ice cubes"
- munch on low-cal veggies (cucumber, celery, etc...i like adding lemon juice or salt & pepper for more flavor)
- exercise (it always kills my appetite)
- distract yourself...yoga, tv, cc, go on a walk, call a friend, work, anything!
- doing something with my hands, for some reason, always helps...playing with silly putty or play-dough, stress ball, doodling, knitting, etc
- chewing ice cubes
- indulge yourself in other ways...i.e. take a bubble bath, paint your nails, give yourself a facial, just make yourself feel good!
Munch on Sugar Free Gum instead! The minty flavor will curb your hunger.
I know that teeth whitening isn't too good for the enamel but it's been great when I get cravings. Because the process takes fifteen-thirty minutes, then you aren't supposed to eat for 30 minutes following, my cravings are usually gone by the time I'm done. You can't eat while the strips are on and once you've got them on I doubt you'll feel the urge to take them off early and munch down.
Teeth brushing also works, since the minty taste turns people off from eating. Mint doesn't go well with most food.
I always have a set plan on something to do, ie either getting a load of washing on or doing some dusting etc as I was a huge boredom eater and evenings were always the worst.
What I also do now is go for a walk after dinner for an hour and I find that stops me craving.
If you are hungry, you should eat. Make sure that you have room for calories during the time when you get hungry the most often, and eat. Hunger is your body telling you that you need to have some food.
I think distracting yourself from feeling hunger and thereby not eating is a bad behaviour to get into, and you shouldn't do it. When I'm hungry, I eat, and I still lose weight, because I do it responsibly.
Now, if you're not hungry, you're bored, then you shouldn't eat. It's not like you "can't control yourself", like, you black out and when you wake up, you've eaten a whole bag of chips. You know what you're doing when you go to the kitchen, grab food and snack out in front of the tube. REALIZE what you're doing, and don't do it.
I find that if I'm bored, I take up interesting things to do. Snacking is not interesting, and it soon takes a back seat to my wanting to work with my yarn, or screw around on the internet, or clean my house extra well.
But I just wanted to make it clear -- if you're hungry, you should eat.
