Is eating breakfast important? I feel hungrier throughout the day if I eat breakfast and I have realized it adds a lot to my calorie intake.

Most definitely important...I actually learned on this website that you should eat no later than an hour after you wake up because it help kick in the metabolism.
Very important.
It's good you are hungry. Body is working.

Also, if you dont eat right away, the hunger builds and builds and when its time to make a sensible lunch decision..it can be very tough to do!!!
eat a lot of smaller meals...the best way to fight hunger! good luck.

Yes. Not only is it good for your body, several studies have shown that it actually helps with weight loss ( and if you are here to gain weight, it would obviously help with that). I didn't insert any links, but if you search "Breakfast and weight loss" you will get a lot of hits, many of them reliable medical sites.
I don't agree with anything that says to eat when you aren't hungry. If you are hungry in the morning, then yes you should eat.
For me, sometimes I want breaky and sometimes I don't. When I don't I make sure I have fruit and yogurt on hand so that I can eat as soon as I actually do feel hungry.
There may be something to be said about starting the day with a good breakfast because it could potentially give you a metabolism bump, but there is also something to be said about eating when you are actually hungry as opposed to eating when other people tell you you should eat. Learning to decipher real hunger from what I call "should hunger" (you should be hungry now) could be a big key to weightloss.
Finally, if you have realized that eating first thing in the morning fuels your appetite, then this advice might be especially helpful for you. For some people, myself included, exposure to food too many times per day usually causes me to eat more.
Listen to your body above all else. and trust it! :-)

Lorilie,
In a word - yes.
A sensible breakfast within 90 - 120 minutes of waking regulates blood sugar and gets your metabolism going.
And, as ejwasson pointed out above - you are FAR more likely to eat way too much if you are extremely hungry by the time you DO eat - if it's lunch or late morning, or what have you.
I adhere to four small meals a day - breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner, all of roughly equal caloric value. I have found this steady, balanced way of eating has improved how I feel - physically and mentally - a LOT!
Good luck! :-)

I'm usually not hungry in the morning, but I always make myself eat at least 200 calories when I get up just to get my metabolism going. After all, you are fasting for around eight hours every night, more if you don't eat for a few hours before sleeping like me.
I eat breakfast the second I roll out of bed. I'm the grumpiest person alive without it.
