eating to build muscle....

now weve all heard the expression "eat big to get big" but how accurate is this actually? - The way my life is scheduald it is most convienient for me to eat 3 large meals a day rather than 6 smaller ones. Now if i eat a breakfast that is high in complex carbs, but low in protien and fat. For breakfast I eat 2 thick and large ww homemade waffles (made with real apples and cinimmon) I top them with fruit and sugar free syrup. For lunch I have more protien as I have a ww wrap with brown rice, lettuce olives and grilled chicken. I also have a bowl of kashi golean cereal w/ skim milk and 1/2 a banana. (i also have like a pack of oatmeal or beef jerky for snack later). for dinner I generaly have sushi or some chicken dish. (never one with bad sauces or anything unhealthy) I also have ww pasta and chicken some nights (like tonight) - and I always have a protien shake (skim milk and soy protien) after weight workouts. If i didnt eat enough fat for the day i have avacodo salmon or walnuts. - now dose this look like a good "diet" for eating to gain muscle?? my larges concern was the waffles, they are kinda high calorie but they are my favorite food and i dont want to stop eating them for breakfast (they litteraly are my modivation for getting out of bed). If there isnt enough protien I could easily add some soy protien to the waffle batter...or do i just have them give them up all together for some kashi golean or something? - plz any share insights as to weather or not this is a good eatling style for building muscle?

any1??
I don't know anything about "getting bigger" as this isn't really my goal.  I do however, add whey protein to my pancakes which I also make from scratch.  I don't know if the heat damages the whey... I account for the whey in the recipe when I do my calories.

Why not reduce the amount of waffle you eat and add protein; hard-boiled eggs, whey or soy protein, whatever you like.
It sounds like you're eating pretty clean. I would add more protein in the form of lean meats though, things like protein shakes are really supposed to be just supplements (for example, have one immediately after a lifting session). Make sure you're eating more calories than you're burning off and you will gain weight. Keep the waffles, if you gain fat you can always cut later.

What kind of weightlifting routine are you doing?
3x per week I lift weights. I do bench presses, deadlifts, skwats, (all with the bar and weight). I then do other more specific excersises such as back and bicep curls, tricep over head presses, shoulder presses, and peck deck. takes about  1hr and 15min. btw will my cardio break down my muscle building process? or is that only like hardcore marathon runners who loose muscle from intence running?
Glad to see you're doing compound exercises.

You must do cardio. It will improve your results. Unless you're doing intense long duration running a million times a week you aren't going to lose muscle. 2-3 30/45 minute cardio sessions a week is what most people do, usually on off days.

ETA: Eat more vegetables. :)
ok cool thats what how much i do anyway (actually i do a bit more) but mabee ill cut down...so dose everything else look ok?
Yeah as far as I can tell it looks fine. I'm no expert though. Push yourself hard and look to lift more every week. Take a week off every 10-12 weeks, switch your routine up once a month or so to keep your body off guard, for example going to 3x8 from 5x5.

If you don't seem to be getting anywhere in a month or two you should up the calories. You might have to abandon eating so clean if that happens, it just won't be possible to put that many calories in you with low cal foods. Take comparison pictures so you can see your progress, the scale won't tell you everything. Good luck.

im doing weights too

ppl in the gym said that im too thin

so all i nid to do is just toned up my body but i do cardio for 45mins a day then weights

it is true do some weights then a lil cardio so you'll burn more fats?

well the instructor said i have to eat foods w. lotsa protein and im vegetarian  so my source of protein is tofu, nuts and peanut butter

im scare about gaining weight i know its my muscles building up but i freak out when i scale my selff and i gain a pound or something....
That sounds like a lot of cardio if you're trying to gain weight. But your trainer will know best.

Muscle is sexy. It also weighs more than fat. If you want to be healthier and sexier you are going to have to train yourself to stop taking the scale so seriously. :)
ok so 30 min of cardio 4x per week will not interfere with my muscle gaining??? - thats the big question
I don't know, biggerbetter. Most people do 2-3. I was talking to miki above who said she was doing 45 minutes 'every day'. Try 4x and see what happens. If it seems slow going cut back to 3 I guess. As long as you aren't doing high endurance stuff and you're eating back those calories you're burning I don't see why you couldn't gain. Everybody's different though.
okay, running will break down the muscle- or try to. For best results try the treadmill walking on the highest incline possible, or the sit down bike or a stairmaster. This type of cardio will keep your heart healthy and work to mantain your muscles, it will also help develop leg muscle. As for food your best bets are egg whites, chicken breast, whey protein (soy doesn't do as well). Also amino acids and l-glutamine will help you maintain muscle.

Whey protein is cheap. Most people make their own shakes.

3 hours a day plus 45 minutes cardio... I can't advise you, you need to see a doctor.
