On rest days, after working out everyday, many people eat less carbs. I think that eating them is important for muscle growth and repair, but feel guilty for eating them when I am not being active. Does anyone else lower their carb intake on rest days?? Does your body really need them for repair, or are fats and proteins efficient at muscle building??
Hello??
I eat pretty much the same everyday regardless of whether I work out or not with the exception I will eat a little more on the days I work out.
Your body does a lot more than repair on rest days. It helps you breathe, and walk, and pump blood...you need carbs for that! I actually eat more carbs when I don't work out, because thats just what I tend to do without focusing on protein for muscle growth, and I fare perfectly fine.
Cool. Thanks. I feel guilty about eating carbs when I'm lounging, but eating carbs with protein makes me feel better than eating fat and protein. I read articles on the internet that say your body doesn't need carbs to function at all, but I can't see the logic in that! Thank-you!
The article was right your body doesn't need carbs to function. It will (burn) fat for energy and when that's gone your muscle until there is nothing left to covert and you die of starvation. That said, the question is what should you eat to make it function most efficiently? I think it's fine to lower carbs a little on non-lifting days as long as you feel good but if you feel better with the same or more carbs on non-lifting days then go ahead and eat them and DON'T feel guilty!!! ![]()
